The leaves and branches of a bonsai tree should be evenly distributed at less heightabove the trunk. Each branch of the tree should be angled to the opposite directionof the subsequent one.

Make sure that the trees which you are buying have a thick trunk at the bottom thatnarrows towards top. Look for scars on the trunk, in case it has many there arepossibility of tree being sick. Therefore resist from buying bonsai trees that havemany scars over the surface of trunk.

It is also advised to check whether the tree has grown from the center of the pot ornot. Never buy a potted bonsai tree which has grown towards right or left portion ofthe pot.
