ABSTRACT

In a rapidly progressing world, threats of global Warming, Sound Pollution & Air Pollution etc are on all time rise.

As result, costs for heat insulation, eco friendly construction work have also increased considerably.

So a need for developing an economical, eco friendly & a versatile construction technique has arised.

The invention of ‘Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) Concrete Blocks & Panels has provided a golden mean to all the above stated threats.

Its use in construction work , which is the need of the hour in developing nations like India.

The EPS technology is a ‘German Technology’ , which has been recently introduced in India by Mr. S. R. Mane, a well known personality in Pune’s Industrial Sector.

The EPS Technology consist of sandwiching a piece of thermocole between cement concrete.

In India the EPS technology has been introduced in two ways, EPS concrete blocks and the EPS Concrete Panels.

The EPS Concrete Blocks & the EPS Concrete Panels have been briefly described in the further pages .

WHY THERMOCOLE (EPS) IS BENEFICIAL

1. Polystyrene is the best available insulation material at present for usage in walls & roofs all over the world.

2. The insulation properties are very superior if the polystyrene is good bonding & avoid air gaps & pockets to eliminate any chance of consideration.

3. The EPS Concrete Thermocole Block has the added advantage of extra sound insulstion in addition to thermal insulation than the normal blocks .

4. researched data proves that ‘polystyrene inserted’ concrete blocks are the most cost effective in terms of thermal insulation as against cavity wall, autoclaved brick wall, cavity wall with polystyrene sheet & other type of insulation.

Only 100 nos. of EPS Concrete Thermocole Blocks of (200x200x400)mm are required to make one brass.

EPS CONCRETE BLOCKS

A. Manufacturing :

The EPS Concrete Blocks are manufactured by sandwiching in specially moulded thermocole piece between cement concrete. It cpnsist of an arrangement for good bonding with the surrounding cement concrete.

They are manufactured in an EPS concrete molding which is fully automatic and consists of moulds different sizes to suite customers requirements.

B. Applications :

1. they can be used as a substitute for bund clay bricks

2. They can be used for paving as paving blocks .

3. They can be used as a substitute for cavity wall.

4. They can be used in high rise buildings to reduce the dead load of structure.

5. They can be effectively & economically can be used in temporary structures.

EPS CONCRETE PANELS

A. Manufacturing :

The EPS Concrete Panels are manufactured by sandwiching a piece of a thermocole between a wire mesh surrounded by cement concrete. They are provided wiyh handle to allow its lifting during transportation. The wire mesh has 2mm diameter and is useful in keeping the concrete & the thermocole fixed together. In some cases it is used for proper binding of the plastering material with the thermocole . The thermocole panels can be manufactured in variable sizes as per dimensions of structure.

B. Applications :

EPS Pallets:

Among our vast product range, we are also engaged in offering EPS pallet plates used for storing and transportation purposes. These pallets are manufactured using quality raw material and are precisely machined in conformation to international quality standards. Available in varied shapes, sizes and colors, these EPS pallets can also be customized as per the requirements of the client.

EPS Sheet/Pipe Section :

The highest quality of Polystyrene Sheets, Styrofoam Sheet, Polyurethane Pipe, Packaging Polystyrene Sheet, EPS Packaging Sheet and Urethane Foam Sheet, which are manufactured by using highly refined quality of raw materials to attain the super quality of products. We also manufacture and supply various types of EPS sheets for various applications. EPS comparing to any other Insulation materials like Particle Boards, Gypsum Boards, Polyurethane Foams, Glass Wool, Mineral Wool, Poly Ethylene etc is low in thermal conductivity, high in insulating efficiency, highly moisture resistance and budget friendly.

EPS is light in weight reduces handling hazels, stable in dimension and does not warp or bend. EPS is also the vital insulation material in both Hot and Cold Insulation, Pipe Insulation with EPS Pipe Section, under and over deck insulation with added Density Sheets, Wall insulation in cold storages, Air conditioned Warehouse and Godowns. EPS False ceiling is not only neat but also keeps even non air conditioned rooms cool by reducing the inflow of external radiation. The sheets available in standard 3.7meter x 1.0meter length sheets and can be fabricated into

almost any thickness and density. Primarily EPS is used as an exterior insulator, for every 25mm, our polystyrene sheets have a R rating of approximately R1. TRW EPS is the perfect companion for the render warehouse fibrelite base and top coat render range.

Polystyrene provides the builder with insulation that varies in density, which translates into a structure that will meet or exceed energy code standards without the added expense of increased stud width. TRW is able to deliver EPS fabricated to any required density.

The demands on modern packaging often requires the application of multiple materials. After design, rigorous product testing is conducted before packaging is put into use. Real world conditions are simulated for shock, drop, vibration, compression temperature and humidity.

COST BENEFITS

- Construction by using EPS technology makes a structure very light it reduces the dead load of structure by 33% . As a result amount spent on foundation reduces considerably.

- Most economical technique of heat and sound insulation.- 50% saving in electricity bills for ACs - Rs. 2000/- is saved for construction per brass .

CONCLUSION

- Practically overall construction cost of EPS (thermocole) sandwiched bricks is less than all types of bricks and heat insulation as well as other advantages such as cold insulation and sound insulation are much more than all other types of bricks.

- Weight of EPS (thermocole) sandwiched concrete brick is less than all other traditional clay bricks. We can further save on steel of R.C.C. design which is economical redesign of column and beams.

- EPS (thermocole) sandwiched concrete bricks are eco friendly which is most important for eco friendly housing because it will take 3000 years to create a natural fertile soil and if existing fertile soil used in making clay bricks , probably in future there will not be soil on this beautiful planet earth.

- Techniquely & commercially , EPS (thermocole) sandwiched concrete bricks are more superior in all respect compared to all other traditional bricks.
