Homage/PasticheIn the music video, it is clear that there are

similarities between the style of the video and the 80’s film ‘Sixteen Candles’. This can be seen as merely copying the text (pastiche) or respectfully imitating it (homage).

ParodyIn the beginning of the video there is a shot

of Katy Perry’s character checking “pictures of last night” as it states. The website used to view them is something that seems to be mocking social network sites in general such as facebook, myspace, etc.

BricolageWith the video copying of another form of

text is used twice but in the forms of iconic people. These being the infamous Rebecca Black and famous saxophone player, Kenny G

IntertextualityWithin the music video there is also a lot of

references to famous icons such as dungeons and dragons as seen below.

Narcissism, Breaking Down the Fourth WallHere we can see both an example of breaking

down the fourth wall but staring right into the camera, therefore looking at the audience as well as posing to make herself more attractive as an example of narcissism/vanity.
