    Spain dominates
    Spain acquires funding from Italy to start exploration
    Christopher Columbus sets sail after finally attaining financial backing
  • 3. The Grand Tour: Turkey to Africa
    Muslim Domination
    Turkey controls most of north Africa
    Egypt is the only country to resist
    Ottoman empire growing very strong
  • 4. The Grand Tour: South Asia
    India is under Muslim rule except for Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagar
    Islam spread to the trading ports in Java, and the Spice Islands
  • 5. The Grand Tour: China and Japan
    These countries had large amounts of exotic goods for exportation
    Grand trade routes were opened
    Columbus set off for Japan but found an entire different region altogether
  • 6. The Grand Tour: The Western Hemisphere
    Civilizations in this hemisphere had no beasts of burden, nevertheless were able to build grand pyramids and temples
    The Spanish burned all but 4 of the Mayan books, leaving a huge hole
    The Mayans had the most accurate calendar
  • 7. The Staff of Life
    Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rye, all very easy to grow, and also nutritious
    Beasts of burden were brought to the new world to assist in plowing and also to provide manure, to make agriculture easier
  • 8. The Great Traditions
    With the growing trade routes, hunter-gatherer groups were becoming more and more extinct
    Stationary civilizations thrived because of trade
    Architecture became a way of discerning cultural influence
  • 9. The European Challenge
    Amount of trade available became a new form of wealth
    Exploring became a way of finding new trade opportunities, thus increasing wealth
    Also this brought along the colonization of many newly discovered countries
