It all started when I participated in a team outing last year.

It was simple…teams of 4 were given $100 to go out and do random acts of kindness.

After doing our acts of kindness, we got back together and shared all of our

stories.*

* We weren’t literally around a fire, but you get the point!

The stories were SO moving!

It was literally my favorite day at LinkedIn.

(and I’ve been here 3 years)


My favorite story from that day was about the team who met a girl making

a layaway payment on her quinceañera* dress…

*Quinceañera (pronounced: [kin.se.ˈɲe.ɾa] is the celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday in parts of Latin America and elsewhere in communities of people from Latin America. This birthday is celebrated differently from any other as it marks the transition from childhood to young womanhood. (Source: Wikipedia)


They spent time connecting with her and

her family.

Then they decided to put their entire $100 towards a payment for her dress!

But wait!It gets better….


After leaving the shop, they decided to pool their money, go back in & pay off the dress for her…they even threw in a

pair of shoes!

The girl was so incredibly touched – and it brought tears to everyone’s eyes

as we heard the story.

After that, I wanted to make sure that every LinkedIn employee would have a chance to have the same experience!

So we are taking Random Acts of Kindness

around the world…


In San Francisco, one team changed the $100 into $2 bills.

They gave people one $2 bill for their bus fare and another $2 bill so they could pay it forward to someone

else.


A New York team paid for four couples’ wedding ceremonies at City Hall.


One group gave out free hugs in Dublin!


Down under in Sydney, a team donated board games and lottery scratch-offs to residents at a senior home.


A LinkedIn team in Bangalore spent timeat an orphanage for children with HIV+ giving out snacks and school supplies.

A team in Melbourne surprised a couple bypurchasing their groceries.

In Milan, a team bought books and games for a kindergarten class.


The Madrid office bought supplies for a charity for people at risk of social exclusion.

Then they served meals to 200+ individuals and families (and even cleaned the kitchen!).


They got creative in Paris and put signs on people’s cars that said things like:

“Little reminder to congratulate yourself for being awesome”!


And on the streets of London, their sign said:

“It’s cold and wet outside, can I brighten your day with a free coffee?”


This LinkedIn Omaha team donated gift cards to Beaver Crossing, a nearby town that had recently

been hit with a tornado.


In Chicago, this team deliveredpizza and cupcakes to a local nonprofit.


In Toronto, one team decided to double the funds given to them by hosting a pancake breakfast in the office!

Then they bought non-perishable items to fill the shelvesof the food bank at the Yong Street mission.


In Tokyo, a group surprised a woman bypaying for souvenirs she was bringing back to

officemates in Osaka.

One team in Dubai gave a group of construction workersfood, drinks and LinkedIn caps (we do love our swag!)

The traffic cops in Mumbai were very grateful to receive water and ice cold sodas from LinkedIn employees.

These are just a few of manywonderful examples.
