Career Pathways (Toolkit)

BCS developed a generic guide aimed at those who have an interest in ICT or are part of the ICT organisation within MoJ. The toolkit took the form of products previously developed but drawn together to tell a story of how to use the Job Roles and SFIAplus for career planning and development. BCS delivered:

• High Level Career Map

• Outline Job Families

• A guide on related skills and skill groups

• How to use current roles to define skills gaps overlap

• How to use current roles to map a potential career path

• Guidance for managers on skills training or experience

It is a prestigious independent seal of quality that demonstrates your commitment to supporting the professional development of your staff and improving employee motivation and retention.

Page 14: The government IT profession moves forward Adam Thilthorpe

Key changes

1. Adopted a professional framework – SFIA - to underpin professionalism

2. Substantial development of the talent pipeline (TiBs and talent academies) to further build the professional community

3. Greater focus and clarity to the professional roles

4. Built stronger links in the community and with

professional bodies and societies such as BCS and e-Skills UK

Look to achieve the level of competence, behaviour and status that goes with being a professional in any walk of life. See their status as an IT Professional as a personal attribute, irrespective of their job or organisation (as much an IT professional as a civil servant) See themselves as part of the connected IT profession and derive their standards from that - networked, locally, nationally, globally.

The change should be cultural so that people:
