As the president of the Organizing Committee of the International Seminar “The future of mining in Peru and its impact on national development”, it is a pleasure to introduce this highly specialized platform to analyze and exchange ideas and knowledge to face the major challenges and deance impacting the mining sector.

This seminar is an attempt to answer – in general lines of the important change processes worldwide – some of the troubling questions about the future of the Peruvian mining sector in the following decades.

This is an outstanding joint effort promoted by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) and the Council on Australia Latin American Relations (COALAR) aimed at analyzing the future reality to be one step ahead and to propose suitable solutions and specic actions that will benet the mining sector and the economic and productive development of the country.

We would like to reinforce the message that mining is not a short-term activity but that needs a long-term, strategic perspective to become a true leverage fostering the sustainable development of Peru.

Where are we going? Which will be the factors that will impact the long-term mining development? How should we face the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities waiting in the future? How to make the most out of the experiences of other countries for the strategic planning of the mining activity in our country? Which guidelines of the agenda should we follow to continue fostering the mining investment in our country? This is why I would like to invite you to the rst edition of this International Seminar, which is an excellent opportunity to show that the mining sector keeps contributing to our country. The future of the national mining sector is in our hands.

Until November 24 at the Marriott Hotel in Lima!

Thank you very much!
