ISSUES ON SCHOOLS DATA ON PARTICIPATION RATE

• Conflicting rate between schools based data with CBMS data

• Absence of an accurate basis for school age population due to lack of available secondary data

• Generation of secondary data not using a standard process and not dynamic

• Some barangays have very low value for data generation project-lack of appreciation due to lack of understanding on its benefits

EDUCATION: Where do we want to go? Be?

• Targets:Performance Indicators-

a. Participation Rateb. Drop Out ratec. Completion Rated. Test Results- NAT, Reading

Page 135: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues• Performance Indicators that hurt teachers• Absence of an updated and accurate

secondary data in the municipality versus which performance indicators can be validated

• Absence of and ready availability of these standard data for use in education initiatives

Page 136: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

• Teaching practices-a. multi-grade teaching to augment lack

of teachersb. accessibility of schools that affect

attendance and punctuality of teachersc. availability of basic amenities- lodging,

potable water, comfort room, that affect teacher performance

Page 137: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

• Parent attitudes-a. education is primarily the obligation of

the teacherb. school activities are costly and time

consuming, thus are not encouraged to attend meetingsc. if the child is not promoted, he usually

stops schooling. Next child, please..

Page 138: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

• Parent attitudes-d. children substitute parents for child

caring and must help parents in earning a living, due to the big family sizee. children must learn only the basic reading and writing. That’s quite enough.

Page 139: The First Libon Education Summit

Community:• PTCA – sometimes becomes a political

position; territorial• Selective consultation of schools issues

with community• PTCA President and school Head equals

school management

Some relevant issues

Page 140: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

• Institutional concernsEducation is the exclusive responsibility

of one agency. it is not, rather, it is a collective effort of

stakeholders.

Page 141: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

• Institutional concerns:

Local School Board- an organization of first convergence is trapped in its traditional role of budget allocator for schools maintenance, and budget itenmsthat are used as stop gap measures ( i.e. repairs and maintenance)

Page 142: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

•Institutional concerns:

Mandated share of schools to athletics and scouting are usual budget items in

the SEF

Page 143: The First Libon Education Summit

Some relevant issues

• Institutional concerns-DepEd, the primary agency tasked for

education innately partners with the community and other organizations, but these are not clear as to terms of engagement. We need working models of partnership, where these terms are jointly drafted and supported.

Page 144: The First Libon Education Summit

EDUCATION: How do we go there? Become what we want to be?

• First, this Education Summit- a gathering of education stakeholders and Education Reengineering Leaders.

Be generous with your ideas and inputs.

• Second- we plan, work, implement anything that we agree on today, all for the sake of our children.

Page 145: The First Libon Education Summit

EDUCATION: How do we want to go there? Be?

• After the workshop, we plan our next steps thru an Action Plan.

• We make our commitments.• We work on these commitments.• We continuously measure ourselves.• We continuously monitor ourselves.

thoughts to ponder• Libon prominent

intellectual personalities, ….can we replicate them in the next generation?

Page 151: The First Libon Education Summit

Thoughts to ponder

• Do our public school children, especially those

schooled in rural barangays ever have the

chance to become intellectuals of our town?

thoughts to ponder

Page 152: The First Libon Education Summit

Thoughts to ponder

• Can our next leaders, businessmen, professionals who will shape Libon’scommunity in the future come from them, or will these be privilege of the few?

thoughts to ponder

Page 153: The First Libon Education Summit

• ONLY WITH EDUCATION CAN WE LIFT OUR TOWN FROM POVERTY

• ONLY FROM IMPROVED QUALITY OF EDUCATION CAN WE SUSTAIN THE GAINS OF OUR LEADERSHIP AND INITIATIVES FOR PROGRESS

• BELIEVE THESE.
