The Fire Risk Assessment comprises five steps: Step 1 Identify the Hazards Step 2 Decide who might be harmed and how Step 3 Evaluate the risk and decide on precautions Step 4 Record your findings and implement them Step 5 Review your assessment and update if necessary. 321 February 2015 By David Bennion 2015

Tour your premises and operations note any hazards Talk with your employees or representatives & line managers note any comments Check manufactures instructions Check COSHH products, MSDS, and risk assessments Check accident book (F2508) 421 February 2015 By David Bennion 2015
  5. 5. Step 2 Decide who might be harmed and how! Young and older workers inexperience or slower reactions. Expectant or nursing mothers must be a separate risk assessment in place. Visitors, contractors, cleaners, maintenance teams, those who work in isolation or out of normal hours. Other businesses who may share the building the assessment will need to be co-ordinated between all parties responsible. 521 February 2015 By David Bennion 2015
  6. 6. Step 3 Evaluate the risk and decide on precautions Can the hazard be removed Is there a safer option Can the risk be reduced by control measures isolate, contain.   7. 7. Step 4 Record your findings and implement them! Record your findings training records, weekly/daily check sheets, trip hazards etc implement changes needed. Maintenance programmes are they current Electrical hazards trailing wires, damaged plugs, PAT current, Put checks and balances in place to ensure consistency and systems do not lapse.   8. 8. Review your risk assessment and update if necessary! Undertake audits and spot checks to ensure compliance. Note changes ie: new machinery, new working practices update plan to reflect changes. Building or environmental changes increased workforce, shift patterns, more outsourcing update plan to reflect changes.
