Yahoo! Local helps you find the things you need in your neighborhood and beyond. It gives you the names and phone numbers of local services and businesses, and also shows you information related to them. For instance, you'll get the name and address of your local deli, the time it opens, whether it accepts Visa, and maybe even how helpful the wait staff is.

Also known as the Open Directory Project. Search for categories where you would want to be listed, or search a competitor. This will allow you to select and submit to the categories that are specific to your industry. Multiple listings can be requested, but are done individually. This is edited by volunteer editors for each of the categories.

To get into Yelp, you have to create a regular member account. Then you click on write review and search for a business name that is not there. You are then given the option to add the business. You already know that asking friends is the best way to find restaurants, dentists, hairstylists, and anything local. Yelp does not monitor or edit the comments or reviews made by its members.
