Social Media – The Basics

What is Social Media Social media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities that

integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio. This interaction, and the manner in which information is presented, depends on the varied perspectives and "building" of shared meaning among communities, as people share their stories, and understandings. ~ Wikipedia

"Social Media is Word of Mouth or Community Based Marketing that leverages Technology as a Platform for Conversations." - Erica O'Grady

What the heck does that mean? What it means is that people are finding new ways to communicate,

conversant and connect. New ways that are faster, cheaper, better, inherently honest. New ways that are shutting out the old ways.

Think about it? Where do you want your information to come from?

If someone on the television tells you that Molly Maids is trustworthy, honest, professional and will clean the heck out of your house…do you believe them? Maybe so

If your sister, business partner, neighbor, BNI member tells you that Houston Housekeepers is trustworthy, honest, professional and will clean the heck out of your house…do you believe them? More than likely yes you do.
