Your Shark® Navigator™ Upright is easy to assemble:
1 Layyourvacuumbodyonalevelsurface.
2 Slidetheelectricalconnectionfromthepowernozzleintothemainbodytoclickintoplace.
3 Connectthehosefromthemainbodytothepowernozzle;pushwithaslightturningmotiontocreateasnugfit.
4 Slidethehandleassemblyintotheuprightunitaligningthehosehookonthehandleassemblywiththepowercordhooksonthebackoftheunit.
5 Securethehandleassemblyinplacewithincludednut/bolt(shippedattachedtohandleassembly).
6 Placethevacuumintheuprightposition.
7 StoretheCreviceTool,DustingBrushandCleaningWandontheunit.

Withtheunitinthestandingposition,liftbytheDustCupHandle.

b)Routeunderanti-tiphook
c)Routeoverupperhoseholder
d)Presssecurelyontocleaningwand

9 To store the vacuum:
Whenstoringyourvacuum,windthecordaroundthetwocordholdersandsecurewithcordclip:
•QuickCordreleaseatthetopoftheunit–placeintheuprightposition.
•Cordholdernearthebase–turnituntilitispointingdown.
Toreleasethecord,turntheQuickCordreleasetotheleftorright.
StoretheExtendedReachKit,thePetHairPowerBrushandthe24"CreviceToolintheaccessorybagwhennotinuse.

UsingtheVacuum
YourShark®Navigator™UprightVacuumcanbeusedtocleanbarefloorsorcarpets–withtheclickofaswitch.
Standthevacuumintotheuprightposition.
Pluginthevacuum.
1 StartwiththePowerSwitchinthe“O" - Offposition.
2 PlaceyourfootontheFloorPowerNozzleandpullhandletowardsyou.
3 SetthePowerSwitchtodesiredcleaningsetting.
4 When cleaning carpets:
Ensureyouhavepulledthehandletowardsyouandselectthe“II"- Brushroll Onpositiontoagitatethecarpetfibersfordeepercleaningperformance.
When cleaning bare floors:
Selectthe"I" - Onpositionforsuctiononlycleaningtoavoidscatteringdirtwhilecleaning.
IMPORTANT:YourBrushrollIndicatorLightwillilluminatesolidgreenwhenthebrushrollison,orsolidredifthereisablockage.ThisfeatureisdesignedtoprotectyourLifetimeBeltthatpowersyourbrushroll.See Checking for Blockages on page 11.
NOTE:Theheightofyourpowernozzlehasbeenoptimizedforeasypushingandsuperiorcleaningonallfloortypes,sothereisnoneedtomakeanyheightadjustmentsasyoutransitiontodifferentfloor&carpettypes.

To empty the Dust Cup:
1 GripcarryhandleandpresstheDustCupreleasebuttontoremove.
2 Option A:ForQuickEmpty:InsertDustCupdeepinsidetrashreceptacletocontaindustanddebris.
PressthebottomDustCupreleasebutton;tapcontainergentlytodislodgeandreleasedustanddebris.
Snapdoorinplace.
Important:IftheDustCupDoordoesnotswingopenafterpressingthereleasebutton,pushthedooropenusingthebottomdoortabs.
CAUTION: Unplugthevacuum;failuretodosomightresultinelectricshock.
3 Option B:ForAllergySufferers:WrapatrashbagaroundtheDustCupleavingspaceatthebottomforthedoortoswingopen.
LocatetheDustCupDoorreleasebuttonwithinthetrashbagandpresstoreleaseasyoushakethedustcuptoemptydustanddebris.
Snapthebottomdoorinplace.
Note:OptionBcanalsobeper-formedoutsideofthehometofurtherminimizereleasingdustbackintotheair.CarryjusttheDustCupandtrashbagoutside.
Note:Somedustanddebrismayremaininthetopofyourdustcuponornearthemetalscreen.Itisnotnecessarytocompletelyremovethismaterialbeforecontinuingtovacuum;Shark®advancedcyclonicactionwillsweepthemetalscreencleanonceyoubegintorefillyourdustcup.

11To clean the pre-motor filters:
1 Removethedustcup.
2 Pullthe2filtersoutfromthetopofthemotorbase.
3 Rinsethefiltersthoroughlyinlukewarmwateruntilthewaterrunsclear.
DO NOT putthefiltersinthewashingmachineordishwasher.
NOTE: Thematerialinthefilterswilldiscolorovertime.ThisisNORMALandwillnotaffecttheperformanceofthefilters.
4 Squeezeoutexcesswaterandletair-dryforatleast24hoursbeforereplacing.Donotuseahairdryerorotherheatingmethodstodry.
5 Placethefeltfilterinfirst,thenthefoamfilter.
6 Replacethedustcup.
To clean the post-motor filter:
1 Removethefiltercoverfromthefrontofthevacuumbypullinguponthetabandpullingthecoverawayfromthevacuum.
2 Takeoutthefilterbypullingitstraightout.
3 Turnthefilteroversothatthedirtysideisonthebottomandvigorouslytapitcleanagainstagarbagecantoremoveanydust.
4 Washthefilterunderthetapusinglukewarmwaterwiththedirtysidefacedownuntilthewaterrunsclear.
DO NOT putthefilterinthewashingmachineordishwasher.
NOTE: Thematerialinthefilterwilldiscolorovertime.ThisisNORMALandwillnotaffecttheperformanceofthefilter.
5 Allowthefiltertoairdryfor24hours.Donotuseahairdryerorotherheatingmethodstodry.
6 Oncethefilterisdry,replaceitbackintothevacuum.
7 Replacethecoverbyinsertingthetwotabsintotheholesatthebottomandthenswingingthecoverupuntilitclicksintoplace.
DO NOToperatethevacuumwithoutALLthefiltersinplace. DO NOToperatethevacuumwithWETfilters.

PROBLEM POSSIBLE REASONS & SOLUTIONS
Vacuum is not picking up dirt.
Checkfilterstoseeiftheyneedcleaning.Followinstructionsforrinsinganddryingthefiltersbeforere-insertingbackintothevacuum.(See“Maintenance”sectionsforinstructions.)
Dustcupmaybefull;emptydustcup.
Checkhoseandhoseconnectionsforblockages;clearblockagesifrequired.
Ifdustcupisempty,andattachmentinletsareclear,checkforotherblockages.(See“CheckingforBlockages”forinstructions.)
Vacuum lifts scatter rugs (lightweight, movable rugs).
Suctionispowerful.Takecarewhenvacuumingscatter-typerugsorrugswithdelicatelysewnedges.
Airflow is restricted. No suction or light suction.
Checkfilterstoseeiftheyneedcleaning.Followinstructionsforrinsinganddryingthefiltersbeforere-insertingbackintothevacuum.(See“Maintenance”sectionsforinstructions.)
Dustcupmaybefull;emptydustcup.
Checkhose,hoseconnections,nozzlesandaccessoriesforblockages;clearblockagesifrequired.
Closethesuctionreleaseonthehandletoincreasesuctionpower.
Ifdustcupisempty,andattachmentinletsareclear,checkforotherblockages.(See“CheckingforBlockages”forinstructions.)
Motorized floor brush has become jammed or has shut off.
Immediatelyturnoffandunplugvacuum,disconnectthenozzleandremoveblockagebeforereconnectingandturningvacuumbackon.(See“CheckingforBlockages”forinstructions.)
Vacuum turns off on its own.
Thisvacuumcleanerisequippedwithamotorprotectivethermostat.Ifforsomereasonyourvacuumoverheats,thethermostatwillautomaticallyturntheunitoff.Shouldthisoccur,performthefollowingstepstorestartthemotorthermostat:
1.MovetheOn/Offswitchtothe“O”(Off)position.
2.Unplugthevacuum.
3.Emptythedustcupandcleanfilters.(See“Maintenance”sectionsforinstructions.)
4.Checkforblockagesinhose,accessoriesandinletopenings.(See“CheckingforBlockages”forinstructions.)
5.Allowtheunittocoolforaminimumof45minutes.
6.Pluginthevacuum.
7.TurntheOn/Offswitchtothe“I”(On)positiontorestartthevacuum.

Blockagesmaycauseyourvacuumtooverheatandshutdown.Ifso,cleartheblockages,thenfollowtheinstructionsforResetting the Motor Thermostatonpage12.
WARNING:Neverinsertsharpobjectsintoanyopeningtoclearanobstruction.
IMPORTANT:Damagescausedwhileclearingorattemptingtoclearblockagesarenotcoveredunderyourproduct’slimitedwarranty.
Unplugthevacuumbeforecheckingforblockages.
Reassembleallpartssecurelybeforeoperatingvacuum.

DisconnecttheSuperStretchHose.

2 Intake Opening behind the Brushroll:

Checkopeningbehindthebrushrollforclogs.
Cleartheopening.
Clearthebrushroll;usescissorstocarefullycutawaythreads,hairorotherdebristhatmightbetrappedinthebristles.
3 Floor Power Nozzle Hose Connector:
Layvacuumflat.
RemoveNozzleHoseandcheckforclogs.
PushtheHoseConnectorbackontotheFloorPowerNozzle.
4 Hose:
Standvacuumupright.
RemovehosefromboththeunitandCleaningWandends.
Inspectbothendsandthelengthofthehoseforclogs.

Maintenance
Resetting the Motor Thermostat
YourShark®UprightVacuumisequippedwithaprotectiveMotorThermostat.Ifthemotorshouldoverheat,thethermostatshutsoffthepower.
To reset the Motor Thermostat:
MovethePowerButtontothe“O” – Offposition.
Unplugthevacuum.
Checkforcloggedhoseorfilter;uncloghoseandreplacefilter.RefertoChecking for Blockagesonpage11.
Wait45minutesforvacuumtocool;thenpluginthevacuum.
TurnthePowerSwitchtothe“I” – Onpositiontostartthevacuum.
Note:Ifvacuumstilldoesnotstart,contactCustomerServiceat:1-800-798-7398.
