Round Brilliant Cut Engagement Rings Carry a
History
The most popular and modern style today is the
round brilliant. The cut of a diamond refers not
to the shape, but the brilliance (polish) of a
diamond. Different facets are shown in the
diamond due to style of cut. Round brilliant cut
engagement ringsare known for having a total
of 58 facets. The way a diamond is cut was
invented back before the turn of the 20th
century.
Even though western culture did not take on
the practice of giving engagement rings until
the 13th century, the meaning is still the same.
It represents a couple is in an agreement for
future marriage. In the 1930's the industry of
diamonds skyrocketed in the united states and
other countries shortly followed. During world
war II woman wore there diamond ring daily to
show their commitment and love of their
soldier fighting for thier country. Men that were
fighting often wore their wedding bands to
remind them of their wife and children at
home. In today’s society it is expected of the
woman to permanently where her engagement
ring to represent her loyalty to her soon to be
spouse. The diamond ring speak the language of
love. This gemstone is well known for the
diamond engagement ring.
The setting or number of diamonds in the ring
tell the style. For instance, a diamond ring with
only one diamond is known as the solitaire. A
solitaire that is mounted with six claws is known
as the archetype or tiffany setting. The
archetype allows the brilliance to be maximized
in round cut diamonds. Three stone rings are
known as the trinity or trilogy rings. They are
generally set with larger diamonds and two
other gemstones on each side to offset the
diamond. These rings can have a religious
significance with the three stones or it can
represent a couples past present and future.
Rarely do you see the multi-stone diamond
rings in an archetype setting. They are generally
in an enclosed mounted ring. Other diamond
engagement rings have the brilliant cut in the
middle and small accent diamonds set into the
ring itself. This shine of the smaller accented
diamonds brings out the brilliance in the larger
diamond in the middle.
The diamond engagement ring may also be
worn as the wedding band. In modern western
culture, the wedding band is a separate ring
worn under the engagement band. To prevent
loss, sometimes the wedding band is welded to
the engagement ring. The solitaire style
engagement ring has wedding bands in the style
of wraps. This is a separate ring with accenting
diamonds that allow for the solitare diamond to
fit in the middle. Again some couples have the
ring welded together to prevent loss.
Rarely do you see the diamond ring given on
any other occasion. Today over 75% of women
wear a diamond engagement ring. With the
beauty of the round brilliant, why give her
anything else? You have many options available
with this cut in a ring. The most popular would
be the solitare round brilliant so the wedding
band may accent it later.
