Representation of Gender

Females in the Wiley – ‘she likes to’ video are portrayed as promiscuous and sexy. This is portrayed through revealing clothes, and dresses that have tiger prints on them which has connotations of sexiness and females being ‘bad’.

Males are portrayed as aesthetically pleasing to the eye in particular for females who are their main buyers and devoted fans.

Gender Continued..The female protagonist in this video is portrayed as emotionally vulnerable, she wears a ring saying ‘Love’ on it which has connotations of females as emotionally unstable.

There is an extremely voyeuristic treatment of females in the R&B and Grime genre, paying close attention to her lips and body. The female is seated in

a lower position in comparison to the male which signifies that the male is more dominant in the relationship.

The male is hooded up which connects him further with the grime genre despite the video being commercial.

Representation of Social Class

As seen through rapper Bashy’s ‘Life’ video, a lower social class is represented through the use of block flats, and drug dealings which shows connotations of the lower working class. Some kind of financial and social struggle is often portrayed through the Grime and Hip-Hop genre.

Representation of Genre

The grime genre is mostly presented as underground music. Most songs have a message to put across, whether it be political, spiritual or romantic. As shown in the screen shots Bashy’s ‘Life’ video he concentrates on giving a political message, in his lyrics he refers to the current mayor of London, Boris Jonson and the rise in stabbings among black gangs in the UK,
