1st Drugstore was opened by “Arabian Pharmacists” in Baghdad in 754.

Most of the today’s major pharmaceutical co.’s were founded in the late 19th century and early 20th centuries.

Key discoveries was insulin and penicillin.

The word pharmaceutical comes from the Greek word “Pharmakeia”. The modern transliteration of Pharmakeia is “Pharmacia”.

Founded by Khwaja Abdul Hamied as THE CHEMICAL,INDUSTRIAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORIES(CIPLA) in the year 1935.

-India needed to become self sufficient in supplying medicine to its people.

Cipla is the worlds largest manufacturers of Antiretroviral Drugs(ARVS) to fight HIV/AIDS.

Cipla is in 2nd place in top 100 Pharma companies in India and 50th rank among the top 500 companies.

It also pioneered a 3-in-one tablet called Triomune containing a fixed dose combination(FDC) of 3 AVRS.

It is the 1st Pharma company in Asia to launch a Non-CFC meter dose inhaler.
