• In 2012, geopolitical tensions in several oil producing nations caused their collective oil production, to fall by over 1 million barrels a day (bpd). The nations, include: Iran, Nigeria, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen

• The crude oil industry has been responsible for two of the worst environmental disasters in history: the Exxon Valdez oil spill, BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster
