WHICH ARE APPLICABLE TO MINE?

A regional magazine is a magazine which aims to serve a purpose to a specific region. For example, it could be a county based mag, or perhaps an even larger area (e.g. the south east). It aims to inform the locals about current affairs within the area and allow them to get to know their area better. Similarly, it can also be used in order for entertainment purposes, for example, local celebrities are often interviewed in order to make the readership feel more connected to the. Also, it can also be used to advertise local companies on a smaller scale, for example, smaller local companies who cant afford to advertise on a larger scale can use a regional magazine as a useful and saturated output.

WHAT IS A REGIONAL MAGAZINE?

• ABSOLUTE BRIGHTONThis is a regional magazine which can be considered “modern” and perhaps even youthful; this is because the style is simplistic yet entertaining, and it often focuses on sport and the popular culture within the area.

• BRIGHTON SOURCEBrighton source is a magazine I am very interested in, the topics covered are entertaining and appealing to a youthful audience like me. Similarly, I very much like the simplistic/indie sort of style that the magazine is layed out in.

WISH TO CARRY OUT?

In absolute Brighton, there is a really varied range of topics which are discussed. For example, we often read articles which are clear interviews with a certain celebrity, (i.e. an interview with the Saturdays in recent times). However, they also mix it up and tend to create a community like feel by engaging in interviews with local schools who achieve great things. Similarly, there is a clear focus on popular culture & entertainment with and integration of local landscapes etc. Most regional magazines focus on local current affairs, as does Absolute to a certain extent, however it includes much more entertaining content.

A GOOD MIX OF ENTERTAINMENT AND INFORMATION!

WHAT SORT OF ARTICLES ARE WRITTEN IN ABSOLUTE?

Brighton source is similar to Absolute in some ways. They can both be considered modern and arty magazines. However, in my opinion Brighton Source is the more attractive, this is because the articles are based more so on popular culture in Brighton. For example, the source magazine has many an article based on music and festivals in the area, this is more relatable as I have a passion for music and would love to have my regional magazine feature it largely. On the flip side, the Absolute Brighton seems to have more adverts and local stories (e.g. interviews with schools).
