Background

Started from a recommendation from a previous employer. He was her landscaper and was looking for more

work Her friend needed a house cleaner so he and my

mother cleaned for the friend. Recommendations from many other people started

coming in and it became a full time job.

They started and stayed in the business because it was the most money making opportunity they had.

My parent’s background were hard, long-hours, friendly workers with no complaints about them.

They also started off working for cheaper prices and had high quality work.

The company today is considered successful as oppose to how it started off.

Successes/Challenges

My parents were able to keep most of their employers happy

They are still working at most of the houses today

They get some perks like gifts and benefits like swimming at their pools during the summer.

Getting raise in pay over time

Challenges include fitting all the houses in a schedule that is workable.

When getting new houses, figuring out the best possible price to start off is challenging because it has to be high enough to make a living but low enough to be hired.

There are many other people who would clean houses for a lower price.

They overcame challenges by choosing fair prices to start off the cleaning and performed at high levels.

They also try their best to fit everyone in a schedule they prefer.

Hard work is the main success factor to work in this business because pay is low and long work weeks have to be worked.

Flaws are that you can lose a house any day and replaced in a heart beat.

They plan on staying in business for as long as they can physically do it.

Their goals are to stay successful by keeping the houses they have for as long as they can. Even though they have tight schedules, they are opened to bringing in new houses anytime.

I get to meet great people and go to high class areas where there are a lot of nice houses.

Driving from house to house before and after cleaning them and managing the time.

Summary

Advice – if you are going to be working in the cleaning service, be prepared for working long hours with little pay especially when you start off.

I learned even though it is a cleaning business, they still share the highs and lows a lot of companies have to go through. You need motivation to work otherwise, you will not succeed. My parents motivation was living the American Dream and living it for their children.
