Pros and cons of Hydro Electric Professional Power Project
Hydroelectric energy is the electrical energy that is generated from hydro-power also known as
hydraulic power or water power. Hydro power is the energy produced from force of water moving at
high pace. This harnessed hydraulic energy can be used for variety of purposes like irrigation, generation
of electricity, power heavy machinery like sawmills, watermills, dock cranes, domestic lifts, textile
machines and others. Nowadays, with the advancement in science and technology one more ingenious
method known as Trompe is used for generation of compressed air that is rapidly falling from water
sources. It can also be used as source of energy that powers machinery and other mechanical units.
Hydroelectric energy is derived from gravitational impact of flowing water which is generated by three
common ways. Those are as follows:
Dams: This method extorts potential energy of water collected in dams. Water turbines and generators
are driven for this process. The amount of power extracted varies with volume of water and height of
water source and water outflow. This difference in height is called as head and in scientific way it is said
that potential energy is directly proportional to head.
Pumped storage: In this method electricity is generated from moving water generally between the
reservoirs present at different heights. It is useful in supplying electricity at high peak demands. When
there is high demand, water is released from higher to lower reservoir and vice versa.
Run-Of-The-River: It is opposite of pumped storage. Run-Of-The-River electricity is not designed to store
water and have small reservoir capacity. The rest of the technique is similar to pumped storage using
elevation and drop of water sources.
Tidal Power Generation: Professional power project plants generate tidal power and harness electricity
by daily rise and fall of water on full moon called as tidal phenomenon.
Although, this all appears to be very simple but it is not devoid from problems as well. It has some
related pros and cons also.
Pros
1. This power source is good substitute for fossil fuels.
2. Low cost of Power Project Startup Maintenance.
3. Generation of power is instantaneous.
4. Non-polluting and does not levy any toxic waste discharge with generation of electricity.
Cons
1. Large space required for construction and reservoir.
2. Construction of such reservoirs may prove detrimental to the surrounding areas like water
shortage.
3. In case of drought maximum impact will be on hydro power stations.
4. Water turbines can pose danger to marine life and cause obstacle in movement of aquatic life
forms.
Though, the benefits derived from hydro electric professional power project far override the potential
detrimental concerns surrounding it.
Summary: Hydroelectric energy is the electrical energy that is generated from hydro-power also known
as hydraulic power or water power. It has four common ways to generate power and some pros and
cons that share objective consideration.
Author Bio: The author believes in renewable energy plants like hydro electric professional power
project that can really survive us from using fossil fuels.
