Current situation of Bangladesh
• In Bangladesh, Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is very high (2.9 per thousand live births)
• Post Partum Haemorrhage & Eclampsia is the most common cause of maternal mortality and accounts for 29% due to PPH & 24% of Eclampsia.

• Eighteen percents of births are attended by medically trained personnel
• Eighty five percents of births take place at home.
• Eighty percents of maternal deaths occur during home delivery.

Mayer Shasthya Project
• Mayer Shasthya is a community based project to prevent PPH & Eclampsia and reduce morbidity and mortality from PPH & Eclampsia in intervention areas
• Mayer Shasthya will implement the comprehensive continuum of care which includes prevention, identification and management of PPH & Eclampsia
• The project started on April, 2009

• The project is funded by Pathfinder International
• Mayer Shasthya project is implemented by Swanirvar Bangladesh
• Partners of the project are Government of Bangladesh and Private Health Facility
• The project is implemented in Karimgonj and Tarail upazila of Kishoregonj district & covered a total number of 219 villages, 17 unions under 02 Upazilas with 55,011 eligible couples and 316,096 populations.

• Registration of all pregnant women in the project area
• Distribution of PPH bag containing Misoprostol tablets (2 tab-200 microgram in each.), blood measuring mat, surgical hand gloves and delivery kit to each pregnant women after 28 weeks of pregnancy Picture: Field worker is distributing

• Identify sing symptoms of pre-eclampsia & follow up
• Manage eclampsia patient by pushing Magnesium Sulphet injection & refer for treatment

• Prevention of PPH by Misoprostol tablets in community and by ensuring Active Management of Third Stage of Labour (AMTSL) in facility
