The prototype : keep in mind

The project aims to contribute to the enhancement and widespread of good practices in credit transfer among European HEIs through the research and proposal of concepts and ideas capable of simplifying the administrative procedures surrounding the establishment and dispatch of ECTS Learning Agreements.

The prototype : 2in1

Learning Agreement Handling:

Main goal > Simplifying/aiding some of the activities linked to LA handling.

Example of tasks > Filling in Learning Agreements, reviewing and validating.

Optimizing these activities > reducing the need for exchanging intermediate paper copies among partners and facilitating the record and future analysis of these activities

Information visualization:

Analyse> Possibility of analysing the data collected in a multi/cross variable manner.

Correlate > Correlation of variables related with time, country, scientific domain

Present > Presentation of the results in and easy to interpret, communicate and share manner.

All LA documents include the same signatures.

However…

Roles played within the LA handling process may vary among HEI.

User profiles implemented: Super administrator (all knowing, all powerful)

• Local administrator (manages at a HEI level)

• Institutional Coordinator (HEI representative that signs LA)

• Department coordinator (Intermediate representative ie. International officers, dep. or faculty coordinators)

• Agreement Coordinator (works directly with the student from the beginning)

• Student (students that has been selected and invited by the agreement coordinator)

From the LA handling point of view

• Future solutions should enable HEI to link up to a system provided by a overviewing organization (ie. the European Commission.)

• Fine tuning and conclusion of the full flow outlined for the LA handling process.

• Interoperability must be guaranteed in order to avoid the need to redo things from scratch.

• Code should be shared in order to enable and harvest new ideas generated on the basis on collective intelligence and community active participation.

• Communication with other projects like, for instance, Egracons.

• Mobile technology should be looked at a deeper level.

• Accessibility should be guaranteed.

• Flexibility must we guaranteed because one size does not fit all;

• HEI should be able to define their structure within the flow.

• Digital signatures should be looked into as a mean of validating final documents in digital format and of protecting information;

• The tool should include the possibility of aiding the students with context-aware help tools.

Based on the information generated by the LA management tool the Infoviz tool should provide the following functions.

• Statistical analysis of problems occurred during the

ECTS handling and LA process (changes in LA, fall back

on deadlines, analysis by country, HEI, etc.)

• Statistical analysis of the various phases and tasks

involved in the LA process.

Based on the information generated by the LA management tool the Infoviz tool should provide the following functions.

• Comparison between variables such as: LA completed

(%) vs. grants

• Various solutions for saving, exporting and sharing the

analysis done.
