Having found a good source of nectar the scout fills her honey sac andreturns to the hive. On arrival, she alerts other bees and recruits themto forage the source she has discovered. She does this by means ofthe bee ‘dance’ so well described by the Karl von Frisch. She cannotconvey the visual appearance of the floral source she has found butshe can, and does, pass on information as to its scent, direction, anddistance. She dance on the vertical face of a comb, or more rarely, onthe alighting board, and her excitement attracts the attention of otherworker who follow her movement. As the dancing bee travels up ormore down straight part, she waggles her abdomen from side to side. The tempo of the dance indicates the distance of the source from thehive.
