Planet Supra Improves Hot Pipe Insulation for Dubai Aluminium

Embed Size (px)

DESCRIPTION

Dubai Aluminium tested Planet Supra Thermal Barrier Paint to reduce surface temperature of its hot piping system. Planet Supra achieved a 13% improvement with 90% less thickness than the existing ceramic coating. Cost-savings are expected from the reduced work load of machines due to less heat loss.

Hot pipe insulation improvedby 13ºC compared withceramic coating.DUBAL, Dubai’s industrial flagship and thelargest single site aluminium smelter in thewestern world, was established in 1979. Theiremphasis on running environment-friendlysustainable operations and constant search forcost-savings has led them to test Planet SupraThermal Barrier Paint to improve hot pipeinsulation.

The selected pilot factory was using ceramiccoating and could not keep surfacetemperature on hot pipes below 97ºC. Afterremoving the existing 3 mm thick ceramiccoating and applying 0.3mm of Planet Supra, the surface temperature of hot pipe becamecooler by 13% at 84ºC. This result wasachieved with 3 coats of Planet Supra, additional coats could improve insulation evenfurther.

1 - A high capacity hot pipe’s surface is selected as pilot site.

2 - Existing 3mm thick ceramic coating is removed from a small portion of the surface.

3 - Three layers of Thermal Barrier Paint are applied with a brush, 0.3mm total thickness.

4 - Thermal scanner records insulation improvement of13ºC over ceramic coating.
