Pete Sampras did it HIS way, so can you!
Part 4: World Class Sport Achievers
Brought to you by: www.dream-it-plan-it-do-it.com
LESSONS:
• He was not a charismatic person and was uncomfortable in the
spotlight. Winning was more important to him than impressing
people.
• He is recognised as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
• He recognized the importance of his coaches and support team in his
success. He made crucial decisions to get the best support staff and
appointed new people at crucial times.
• He believed that his talent was a gift from God.
• He received many awards and accolades. He supports charity
organizations.
• He had all-round skills and
talents from a young age. His
athleticism, speed in moving
around the court, his accurate
strong service, his ability to hit
winning shots from the fore and
backhand helped him in making
the success he has been. He had
a strong competitive instinct
and with his offensive baseline
strategy put his opponents in
the defensive position most of
the time. One of the greatest
changes in his style to help him
win matches was to change
from being a grinder on court to
becoming an attacking player on
court.
WORDS OF WISDOM:
- “I never wanted to be the great guy
or the colourful guy or the interesting
guy. I wanted to be the guy who won
titles.”
- “All I cared about in tennis was
winning.”
- “I did it my way, and I have no
regrets when I look back on my
career that it was just a focus for
me.”
- “People wrote me
off, but I believed in
myself. I got the
confidence back, and
it grew and grew. I
won my first major
and my last at the
place that changed
my life.”
- "Reaching your
potential. I've been
successful, but there
are still challenges for
me.”
