Definition
•People - human beings making up a group or assembly or linked by a common interest, a body of persons that are united by a common culture, tradition, or sense of kinship, that typically have common language, institutions, and beliefs, and that often constitute a politically organized group
•Media - the main means of mass communication
Definition
PEOPLE MEDIA - an assembly of people with a common interest where they become the main means of mass communication. In other words, people are media themselves since they have the ability for mass communication.
People in Media vs. People as MediaPeople in Media – they are the people
behind another form of media. They use other forms of media such as text media, visual media, multimedia, etc. in disseminating information and imparting knowledge.
People as Media – they are the MEDIA itself. The person serves as the medium for another person to learn or acquire new knowledge
Types
Idea Generators - ex. WritersSpeakers - active people media such as
Personal Relations people, newscasters, politicians
Users - especially in the internet where content is highly user-generated, everyone is a user

Importance• In every step of the development of
technology and other types of media, people media was present, they made the existence of all types of media possible. They were the transmitters of information, they were the information sources, before all of the other media was made available. We, the people media, created every type of media (from text to multimedia and manipulative, etc.) - and we created them for a reason, to destroy barriers and have a wider reach, to impart information in an easier and faster way.
Characteristics• Tech savvy- proficient in the use of technology,
especially computers•Credible- able to be believed, capable of being
believed; plausible. Worthy of confidence; reliable. • Flexible- knows how to use a range of technology;
able to change or to do different things•Charismatic- appeals to the senses of different people•Updated- in the know of the latest information•Articulate- expressing oneself easily in clear and
effective language
Applications (in Education)
•Real time discussions in or outside classrooms
•Both teachers and students can act as media with their interactions
•Reportings, skits, and other educational requirements that will demand students to act as giver of information (media)
Advantages
•Flexibility - can correct mistakes last minute (thought-process)
• Interactive•Ability to process the feelings of its media
receivers•Ability to maintain relationships between
sender and receiver•Fast feedback between sender and
receiver
Issues Involved
•Reliability- Capable of being relied on; dependable
•Plagiarism- the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own
