INTRODUCTION• Benzene is an important organic chemical compound with the

chemical formula C6H6. • Benzene is an aromatic chemical. It can be produced from a variety of

sources - through a reformer at a cracker complex, as a refinery product in steel plants (as a recovery product from coke oven gas, obtained during the carbonization of coal) and from toluene in a toluene disproportionation unit (TDP).

MANUFACTURE• Four chemical processes contribute to industrial benzene production:

catalytic reforming, toluene hydrodealkylation, toluene disproportionation, and steam cracking.
