At the beginning of this opening scene we see a low angle shot of someone falling down, this shows an enigma code, it makes the audience wonder is he still alive? Why is he

falling? Is he going to survive? Who is he? As he’s falling down the camera pans out to a high angle shot to show how venerable he is. The scene dissolves into a black scene, this

builds suspense because we wonder what happened to him but instantly we see a hand grab his hand and instead of helping him it looks like the hand is pulling his deeper in the water.

As the we go on to more scenes we see a close up of the protagonist, this indicates his mysteriousness and his facial expression.

Location: the location is under water but it differs throughout the opening of the film, this implies the film being fast pace.

Lighting: low key lightning with areas of high key lightning.Costume: the suit indicates power, professionalism, authority and a serious character.

As the protagonist is falling down we hear non diegetic sound, which goes with the action in the scene, all so known as parallel sound. The music in the background betrays the

lifeless protagonist because its calm and smooth, at the start the sound is more upbeat so show the danger in him drowning but as he falls down the sound changes into a smoother

sound to go with him falling slowly deeper in to the water. When the protagonist is reached out by a lady a music comes on, with the lyrics ‘this is the end’. This really goes with what's

happening right now. It makes the audience wonder if it is really the end.

At the start we see the main character as a very vulnerable and weak person because he’s drowning in the water lifeless. To make it more obvious that the character is being betrayed as being weak is that he’s being dragged down by someone, that shows he has no power or life in him. He’s in trouble, this could tell us that James bond is a person who is involved in loads of dangerous missions and climaxes. This also indicates to the audience that he’s been

targeted by many people such as he’s enemies. From the opening we can also tell the character is a bit paranoid because he’s also looking around for people but he looks ready if anything does pop up because of his weapons in his hand. This shows us that he’s aware of

people around him. In other scene we see him wearing a suit which shows us that he’s professional and smar.t, it also tells the us that the ladies might have something for him as he’s dressed up, suited and booted. The fact that there’s females in the opening backs up

the evidence of him being associated with a lot of females.

There are many themes in Skyfall such as violence, betrayal, love, and death. There are narrative theories like enigma codes, and binary oppositions for example: life vs.

death, men vs. women and good vs. evil
