PWC GREEN DAY is coming nearer! We need to hear from you NOW!
We’re looking to go out with a bang (literally) in 2010 with our special Green Day event planned for the 13th November, Saturday. We meet at the Supreme Court Gardens, cnr of St George’s Tce and Barrack Street, look for the 3 kangaroos at 10am to start our march at 10.30am
What’s it all about? Why are we doing it? And just what are we doing?
Well it’s going to be a wake‐up call to Perth as we march through the Hay Street mall making as much noise as possible and grabbing the attention of the City Of Perth!
So wear all your green clothes, from shoes, to shirts, to hats. Get inventive, green zinc cream, green hair spray. Ladies, green jewellery. Gents, green ties or socks. Girls and Guys, you can get away with anything!!! As long as we are all green and all smiling.
Let’s make People Who Care a household name!
Please donate your old bottle tops, small plastic water bottles (600ml variety), green paint or material to Lesley Care‐Smith (Warwick/Guildford) and Julie Mathews (Mandurah) to make our noisiest creations yet!
And put your name down to march through the streets of Perth for what will be a memorable day in history!
Good Company… Great Community!
GREEN DAY ………..“We’re People Who Care, Who Cares, WE CARE”

A New Type of Volunteer @ PWC
A discussion was had recently amongst us here at PWC and we realised that we need input from our volunteers regarding “Fund Raising”.
Yes I know, many of us have helped out with the school fete for the kids, made cakes to sell for church, but really that’s where my expertise ends.
So now I am on the look out for people who have experience in developing and planning a fund raising event. Also, what is the best way to market and promote an event? And if we do this well, will it facilitate new sponsorship?
All the monies raised in PWC’s fund raising ventures will go straight back into the services we provide.
So if you feel this is right up your alley, or you know some‐one this might just interest, please don't hesitate to give me a call. Susan McCamish
Have a Go Day Stall at Burswood 3rd November—We Need YOU
PWC will be showing our support for “Have a Go Day”, held at Burswood on Wednesday 3rd November between 8.30am and 3.pm. We would like to have as many Volun‐teers there as possible. Come and tell people about your experiences as a volunteer.
If you are interested, please call Susan McCamish on 08 9379 1944 or 0404 083 451
“The Seniors Recreation Council of WA (SRC) is proud to present Have a Go Day, an information and activities day held in Burswood Park, Great Eastern Highway. An annual initiative of the SRC – a volunteer‐based organisation that promotes healthy ageing through activity – Have A Go Day is a free event that allows seniors to try out a range of sporting and recreational activities and hopefully go on to join a sport or recreation club.
Also a wide range of information specific to seniors can be gained from visiting the various static displays.
This event attracts approx 12,000 people with its diverse array of offerings.”

If you dropped by PWC’s stall at the Royal Show this year, you would have seen a large jar, full of green lollies.
Many people gave a wonderful stab in the dark at the number of lollies in this rather large jar.
PWC is so happy to announce that Sharon Chadwick, who did guess the closest, has won the hamper full of yummy food and wine.
Sharon, who has volunteered for us in the past, has asked for the hamper to be added to our Christmas hampers.
Sharon, from everyone here at PWC, thank you for your generosity.
For all others who entered this competition, the magic number was 632 lollies.
Did you know???
86% of volunteers say that volunteering increases their sense of community belonging~ 98% of volunteers feel that their volunteering makes a dif‐ference to their organisation and its work~ Volunteer rate is higher outside of capital cities (32% to 38%)* 36% of women volunteer whilst 32% of men volunteer* The four most common types of organisations for which people volunteer are sport and physical recreation, educa‐tion and training, community / welfare and religious groups* 34% of volunteers say that training in their volunteer roles has given them skills useful for relevant to future paid em‐ployment~ (These statistics have come from “Volunteering Australia”) Did you know… The first Pelican Crossing was introduced in 1969. The word “Pelican” was chosen because it is a Pedestrian Light Con‐trol. Can you see why? Today, there are “Puffin” and “Toucan” crossings. See if you can find out why these names were chosen. You need to use 200 muscles in your body to walk Michael Flatley, star of "Riverdance" had his legs insured for £25 million. Charlie Chaplin, Hollywood's silent comedian with the splay footed trademark walk, had his feet insured for $150,000 (£33,500) in the 1920's; a fortune at the time.
So how many lollie’s were in that jar?? New Centre Based Day Care OPEN
As the weather is warming up and the sun is shining, I thought I would add one of my favourite recipes.
What you need for this to work so well, is lovely music softly, sitting comfortably (preferably in the backyard or porch) and absolutely no interruptions from any children. You will need at least 30 to 60 mins to really enjoy this.
Spiced Tea
Ingredients
2 cups water
3 inches stick cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
3 tea bags
3/4 cup sugar
3 cups pineapple juice
3 cups orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
Ice (optional)
Directions
In a medium saucepan, combine water, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to boiling; reduce heat.
Cover; simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; add tea bags. Let steep for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and spices.
Stir in sugar and juices. Cover and chill thoroughly.
Makes 8 (8‐ounce) servings.
