NAVIGATING THROUGH CHANGE

Hello, & welcome to my brief article on managing change. It will be of interest to you if you are in a position of managing organisational change; you commission training, or have an interest in the fascinating psychology of behaviour change. If you would like to learn more about my 'pilot-project' methodology, then read on.

As a freelance consultant & MD of Talkworks Training & Development Ltd., I have worked internationally across a range of sectors:

Government (Local & National) Financial Services & Insurance Public Utility Housing Food Manufacturing Engineering – Railways & Aviation Pharmaceutical Health & Social Care sectors

to support clients define & achieve their goals.

Mapping a Course

One critical lesson that I have learnt, is the importance of plotting a well 'mapped' course, taking into account the real-life hazards faced. My strong preference is to build sustainable & longer-term business relationships, as not only is this mutually more rewarding, it also reflects the reality of change management. Change doesn't happen overnight, & working with organisational culture, which may resist change, takes time.

I adopt a viewpoint informed both by your business requirements, & a staff-centred focus, to help bring together your people with your strategy. In conjunction with my associates, I am able to support you in defining your objectives, design a bespoke project, facilitate acquisition of the necessary skill set within your workforce & support you in monitoring progress against your specified plan.

Methodology

In order to honour my commitment to a staff-centred approach I recommend utilising a 'pilot' methodology, whereby a project, designed in collaboration with employees can be piloted / trialed - before decisions are made to embed change across the organisation. I have found that this approach helps capture staff-motivation & maximise active-participation across the workforce. Regular monitoring & feedback ensures that control over the project remains with the designated project team.

All business must evolve to succeed, whether it's because of changing market conditions, increased competition, new legislation or other potential 'threats', & this inevitably means managing change effectively. An external 'agent' (consultant) can often see across internal organisational boundaries & help you better structure & manage projects.  Using well designed 'pilots' to plot the best course, can be engaging for the workforce & cost effective for your business.
