Cecil

Every single day, Cecil sighed,”This tree is taking up all my space.

However I move and whatever I do, I feel cramped. I can’t properly preen my feathers.I certainly can’t spread my wings

AND I can’t even remember the last time I flapped them.

But WORST of all, I have absolutely NO room to do what I do best...wiggle my tail, kick up my feet and dance on my toes.”

And then, quite suddenly, he couldn’t hear her anymore. And Cecil knew he was free.

Hearing the zookepper scream made Cecil flap his wings faster...harder. Rising up in the air, he was shocked to see how small she had become.

A Glass Rainbow

Written by: Zeeny JhelumiIllustrations by: Georgia Stylou

As daddy was still looking around, he caught a glimpse of a little man dressed in green, escaping from his garden and was soon seen

sprinting down the road. “Oh it’s that mischievous leprechaun who has stolen my

money!”, realized the annoyed daddy. The quick leprechaun disappeared. As poor daddy was

left wondering what to get Rosa for her birthday now that the money was gone, she came in running and

screaming, “Daddy look outside!”It’s a rainbow! A glass rainbow!

And it has no colors! Daddy I DON’T WANT A

GLASS RAINBOW!” Now! Daddy knew just what

to do!! He would gift Rosa a beautiful colorful rainbow in

the sky. But how ?

6 7

As soon as he left the house, he came across a tailor sitting at his sewing machine, with a needle and thread in his hand and a measuring tape around his neck. Daddy asked the tailor, “Tailor I have come to you, Show me just what you can do.The rainbow made of glass is high, I need colors in the sky.”The tailor took a long beautiful violet yarn, climbed the very very long ladder and sewed it on the rainbow. It looked splendid!

10 11

It is a delightful story about hope and happiness and a father’s voyage to bring his daughter, the perfect rainbow. The story ends with a moral that things done out of love turn out to be the most beautiful.

I am glad to tell you that Mark succeeded. Katharine opened her eyes, and all the beings that were dead were getting back to life.

”What do you want my boy?” said the baker, ”I will give you anything you like.”

”I want to give something to Katharina if she will accept.“ Mark looked into her blue eyes. “I want to give my heart to you Katharina if you are willing to accept and give yours to mine.”

”I am yours for all my life,” said Katharina and they kissed.

The residents of Vienna celebrated that summer day and three days more because they had such a brave hero among them. They sang, danced and feasted.

After that they lived their lives just as they did before, without any fear from scary creatures. They knew they had the knowledge and the courage to conquer them all.

Do you want to know, what happened to Katharina and Mark?

Bestiary After wich Ershkigal’s book by Kiki Klimt

In order to fulfill task i got with my birth I had traveled countless worlds and heard stories of countless more. Upon discovering multitudes of worlds out there I came to a discovery that one person can not traverse them all even if that person is a true and full-blooded witch. Some of the worlds are common to everyone; some are only shared by one or two persons. Some are such that to gain entry you must be destined to go there.

On my travels I have befriended many different creatures some of which are called fantasy beings, unreal or figments of imagination. It is undertandable becouse until you have an opportunity to truly meet them you can not imagi-ne how real they are. All you need to do is start your journey and open all your senses and you are sure to meet a few. All these creatures are wonderful, wondrous, beautiful, powerful and beyond descriptions of words. Words can not express the joy of a phoenix, power of a Griffin, feelings inspired by a Basilisk or love emanating from a Unicorn. You can only fell it.

For all those adventurers who want to discover new worlds and meet some of the most amazing creatures in the universes I have written this field-guide. Here you will find useful and in some cases life-saving information about creatures who range from dangerous to timid and fast as lightning.

The-re are

three theories that I know of which try

to explain this phenomena.

1. This one claims that every Bunyip is completely different and that is impossible to ever encounter two which would lookalike.

2. The aborigines say that the creature has many bodies, one covered wit scales one with feathers and one with thick hide. All of the bodies are overlaid on top of each other.

3. The third theory explains that the creatures has special powers which allow it to change shape whenever it wants.

Which of these three theories is correct is hard to say? This is supported by the fact that there is no living person who has survived a close encounter with a Bunyip. The creature has developed a healthy taste for humans especially women and children.

The natives of these lands have never lived in its vicinity not only because of

its h u n t i n g

habits but also because Bunyip is known to spread

all kinds of diseases.Aborigines sometimes describe it

as a giant snake with big eyes and long ears or a creature most resembling dingo or a giant bird resembling an emu. In drawing they depict it having a horses’ tail, fins and giant teeth as it thrashes the water before setting on the hunt. Some say it is a huge creature with buffalos’ horns on top of a bulldogs head on top of a cows body with a dolphins' tail. Its body can be covered with long hair or scales like an alligator. It can also have feathers, a long neck and a long tail. It can have a kangaroos’, horses’ or a birds’ head. It can walk upright like a human and have huge sharp teeth a snout and

o n e eye. To make the

maters even more complicated its size

can wary from the size of small fish to the size of fully grown giant. The color of a Bunyip spans from light shades of brown to blue and yellow combinations. One thing is in

common to all Bunyips and those are its big fiery glowing eyes. In case you do run into

one there are two thing that may save you. One is a fast run for your life and the other is light which Bunyip tend to avoid. One last word of

advice. A Bunyip can’t be captured for when it senses danger it can summon a giant flood.

Beast.indd 13 05/10/13 10:14 AM

1212

Bunyiphis Australian beast is one of the most unusual and dangerouscreatures in the world.

Some researchers put this creature in the category

of dragons. According to the aborigines this

is not a dragon and the truth is far from it. Bunyip is not

similar to a dragon in any way, not by its appearance and not by its behavior. Although everybody describes it differently one thing is

common in all accounts and that is that a Bunyip is always unusual, unique and magnificent. As with its appearance is the case with its names and just to name a few it is called: katenpai, kinepratia or tanatbah.Somehow the most important

information about a Bunyip is to know how to avoid it.

The natural habitat of a Bunyip is swampland and marshland. It enjoys marshes with high grass and low trees and knee deep thick mud. It dislikes daylight and spend most of the day time in hibernation. Once the sun sets it goes on the hunt. Before it sets off it gives you one last warning a blood freezing cry which is a signal for all to stay away from any water, swamp or marsh. Once on the hunt it will tear apart everything it comes in contact with on its hunting grounds. Some say it is only defending its

territory and that is why it is so aggressive and ferocious. After the attacker has been torn to peaces it eats it all for it would be a shame to waste food. However once you find yourself in the Australian

wilderness beware of

any unusually high pitched cries

or sounds especially if you are close to

water. You may just have bean warned by hungry

creature which is looking for its breakfast.

As he neared the house, he saw the giant’s wife standing at the door. Jack, who was very hungry, said, “Could you please give me something to eat? I am so hungry!” The giant’s wife, who was very kind, gave him porridge and some milk. As he finished eating, he felt the house shake. The giant’s wife said, “It is my husband. Come quickly and hide. If he sees you here, he will kill you.” And she hid him in side a huge kettle.

So Many QuestionsChildren are inquisitive by nature and we opine that children who are not inquisitive should be encouraged to be so. Our series “So Many Questions” is all about encouraging children to ask questions and also, in a fun way, answer a few questions for them.
