ect caught the attention of The Cleveland Musem of Art, and we are currently making a prototype
model to help mass production for their art event.

The farmers market project called for a re-imagination of a produce tent. We were tasked with creating a place where farmers could sell their locally-grown produce, and we thought to make our design more about the product and less about the architecture. Essentially, we built a place where the architecture gave way to emphasizing produce and just produce.
Our “spider” design utilizes a simple beam frame that is light-weight, collapsable, and easy to use. The four aluminum legs are connected by a cen-tral hub, which allows it to be collapsed into a single cohesive piece, light and thin enough to carry by one person.
Once the legs are spread, the cable system is exposed, which allows for the hanging of produce above and around the consumers walking into our design. The web of cables is laid out in a way that creates a curved span of points where produce can be hung using baskets. The weight of the pro-duce also helps to stabilze the entire structure pulling forces inward, which helps the legs stand rigidly around the space.
All of these elements combined create a small place of simplicity. The simplicity gives way to emphasize and encourage the consumption and sale of locally-grown produce, and helps farmers in providing shelter from rain, wind, and sun. The Spider is a realization of simple structural systems coming together to emphasize simplicity and modesty.
