The Mercado Global charity employs over 300 craftswomen in 30 cooperatives throughout the western mountains of Guatemala, helping them break out of poverty by bringing their wares onto the international market, and providing them with business coaching to enable them to earn enough for themselves and their families and help them gain confidence in themselves through their work. The collaboration with Comptoir des Cotonniers benefited 121 crafts-women in 21 communities across the departments of Sololá, Chimaltenango and Totonicapán, who worked for over 20,000 hours to create these unique items.
ENTIRELY MADE BY CRAFTSWOMEN!
Welcome to Guatemala.Comptoir crossed the Atlantic to reach out to communities of women weavers who used their ancestral craftsmanship to make this summer’s most beautiful accessories.

The story of Olga, a 29-year-old Kaqchikel native jewelry maker, mother of Yulisa aged 10 and Merci aged 4
“My children needed clothes and food; sometimes there was money, sometimes there wasn’t. I wanted to be able to work to support the family but there was no work.”
Today, as a Mercado Global artisan partner, Olga is selling her products to top international retailers and is able to put her two daughters in school. She is learning how to use a sewing machine so she can triple her income and invest in her family and community.
