During the process of editing both our preliminary task and our main task I have learnt how to use Adobe Premier. During the editing process of The Waiting I have now learnt how to use Adobe After-effects and Adobe Audition for the sound effects which are then transferred into Premier and added to the timeline. As you can see all of our audio tracks were named so we knew what they were, the same was done to the video files.

Page 4: Media Evaluation

As you can see from this screenshot of the timeline on Adobe Premier we made use of the multi track abilities of the program and have used multiple audio tracks to enable us to keep the transitions between sounds smooth. This also means we have been able to use different sounds at the same time.

This screen shot shows Adobe Audition

This screenshot shows the page on Audition where you can find the audio file that you want.

Once the audio file is found it is then downloaded into Premier using the dedicated download button

Once the download starts, the download progress is shown in percentage underneath the audio track name.

Once the audio has been added to Adobe Premier it can be edited. Things such as Panning and track volume can be changed at certain points using the automation function as shown below.

I used a Rode NTG 2 Shotgun Microphone to record the audio for our production.

This microphone runs on phantom power so it’s very important to remember the battery to be able to record any sound.

For our sound recording we had the opertunity to use a box added to the xlr cable that incorporated transisters to control the sound input from the mic with adjustable levels.

In our production we used the boom pole so we were able to place the microphone in the optimum position to record the highest quality audio without risking the boom or mic being in shot.

The cable into the microphone is an XLR and a 3.5mm jack into the camera

Microphone

I was unable to use the transistor box in our recording because of the camera so I had to be more careful of microphone placement to avoid the sound being too high. Any mistakes can be rectified in Premier using the Before mentioned track volume.

After deciding to produce our main task in the horror genre I did some research into examples of horror title sequences. After watching some examples such as the grudge as a group we came up with some ideas of how to create a horror production.

we decided to not show the main characters. In a similar way to the grudge. In this title sequence we show the people who used to own the house, creating intrigue.

Using a convention of the horror genre we used a low humming sound most of the time, creating tension in the audience. We got this sound from Adobe Audition.

The use of a high pitch noise as he reaches the door at 1:20 is a hint to the audience that something is about to happen as it builds as he gets to the door.

We used a Shaky camera during scary scenes.

To Create Disorientation

The combination of sounds from Adobe Premier creates this disorientation such as the low humming drone and a female laugh

The use of the classic camera shot at 1:27, made famous by Hitchcock , is a very common horror convention. As well as creating variety in terms of shots used this can add disorientation.

The confirmation for us that we had created a successful horror opening sequence is that when we asked people what they thought they were genuinely scared and jumped at the last scene.
