favela, skid row, barrio and ghetto.

Slums are characterized by urban decay , unemployment

and high rates of poverty .

How can we improve the lives of people living in slums?

We can improve the basic services like water, sanitation, decent housing, education and healthcare. High population can be controlled by providing contraceptives.

People living here have low standard of living, are illiterate and have insufficient jobs and housing with poor

sanitation and lack of proper healthcare and

basic infrastructure. The mass media is unable to

reach out to them.

How do slums hinder development?

Living conditions.

Overcrowding in adequate housing, little access to clean water and sanitation. There is overpopulation problem and causing limited land. Hence, living conditions are not good for those people living in the slums .
