LinkedIn is a professional networking site – a place to showcase your skills and experience and share professional industry knowledge with others. It is also a place to connect with people you have met or worked with in the past.
You Can:Create a summary – let everyone know who you are and what you do. Tell your story.Present Your Professional Resume (don’t forget charity projects!) Tag yourself with SKILLS – and get endorsements/recommendations Safe to add clients and vendors because it is not personal Post status updates (professional and job related) and write blogs/articlesJoin and participate in groups Network with contacts, get introductions
Your Hidden Database!
If you’ve had a LinkedIn account for years and have connected to others, even if you don’t ever log in or havn’t kept up with LinkedIn in the past, you have a hidden database!
Many people do not know they can EXPORT their LinkedIn contacts. Use this list to be reminded of people you need to add to your database, connect to old business contacts and reach out via e-mail.
How To Export Your Contacts in LinkedIn
What You Get:• Name• Company• E-mail
What You Do With It:• Use it to jog your memory of people to add to your
database• Send “responder e-mails” to them, checking in and
asking for the missing info like telephone number• Ask for one on one meetings and introductions
From The Home Page – click on “Connections”
Click on settings (the gear icon)
Click on “export LinkedIn Connections
Selected Export – Most likely you want a .CVS file so that you can open with Excel (ignore the fact that it says “Microsoft Outlook” that is irrelevant at this point)
It will ask you to verify you are a real person by entering numbers into the box.
You will briefly see a message that the export was successful followed by a pop-up box allowing you to save your file anywhere you want to
your computer. Save your file – it will now open like any other Excel File.
Who’s Viewing Your Profile?
Prospects might not use LinkedIn to find their next Real Estate Agent – but they for sure use it to vet you once you’ve been recommended!
You can see (some) of the people that view your profile.
A first level contact, by default, can see your other first level contacts. You can use this feature to see who your contacts know and request introductions.
New Account Tips
• Custom URL• Tell Your Story – use personality and character• 6/3/1 Rule (For every 10 posts - Share 6 things
belonging to others, Share 3 things you created, Make one all-out promotion)
• Share publications like books, reports, white pages as documents (and SlideShares, LinkedIn now owns SlideShare)
• You can turn activity broadcast on and off in your settings
Use Your “Headline” Space Wisely! In addition to your title, add a quote or something about you, and your phone number! Use all the space available
– remember this is one of the very first things anyone visiting your profile will see: your phone, name and headline!
What To Share
• Photos and Links / Just Listed / Just Sold• Articles About Lending, Real Estate, Home
Related Articles and Tips• Photos related to Real Estate, Charts,
Infographics• News about your business• Congrats/News about your allied resources
(Promote others to get promoted!)
No Blog? No Problem?
You can create a full length blog post or article right inside LinkedIn and even add photos!
Find the “pencil” where you normally enter a status update – this will take you to the area to build a blog post.
Summary Section
Many people that are checking you out on LinkedIn will read only the top section and summary of your profile – make your profile stand out and provide all the information they need.
Let your personality shine – use this space to tell your story in a unique way. Add your personal voice.
Summary Example One – telling a story . . .
Summary Example –including e-mail and phone number right up front. You can also add links, photos and video to your summary!
