Lighting experiment
By Takomborerwa Mazarura
• Whilst practising and during shooting the video I saw that there was a shadow appearing behind the artists so I felt that I should conduct an experiment to find out how to get rid of the shadow. I could not find the information I wanted from the internet because I did not know the right technical terminology to ask the question “ how do i get rid of a shadow on the backdrop for my music video.
• The first thing I did was to set up the conditions that were in the video
Unwanted shadow
Light substitution-household lamp
“teddy” substitute for the actors/s
Back drop
• The second thing I did was to try and position a secondary light on top of the teddy.
From this research I realised that positioning a light at such a high angle would be difficult.
No shadow ...yes
But...
The light is another household lamp with the shade removed
• I tried to place the light on one side of the teddy
From this experiment I saw that the lighting removed more shadow however there is a contrast of light between the two sides which is not good
I could place another light on both sides of the actors however i do not have enough lights to achieve this.
• I then moved the teddy closer to the first light then I placed the secondary light behind the teddy.
No shadow !!!
From this inoticed that the teddy has more of a presence in the image as it seems he is coming out of the light. It reminds me of music videos ihave seen in the past.
I think this is the setup we are going to use for the video however the secondary light will not be visible
