SLIDE 1: HISTORY OF THE T-SHIRTthe history of the t-shirt and were the t-shirt came from?-The T-shirt evolved from undergarments used in the 19th century, through cutting the one-piece "union suit underwear into separate top and bottom garments, with the top long enough to tuck under the waistband of the bottoms. T-shirts, with and without buttons, were adopted by miners and stevedores during the late 1800's as a convenient covering for hot environments.T-shirts, as a slip on garment without buttons, originally became popular the United States when they were issued by the U.S. navy during or following the spanish anrican war These were a crew-necked, short-sleeved, white cotton undershirt to be worn under a uniform. It became common for sailors and Marines in work parties, the early submarines, and tropical climates to remove their uniform "jacket," wearing (and soiling) only the undershirt. It is possible that the Navy uniform boards first discovered the T-shirt by watching dock crews.this is a union suit Named the T-shirt due to the shape of the garment's outline, they soon became popular as a bottom layer of clothing for workers in various industries, including agriculture. The T-shirt was easily fitted, easily cleaned, and inexpensive, and for this reason, it became the shirt of choice for young boys (perhaps more the choice of their mothers than of the boys themselves). Boy's shirts were made in various colors and patterns, and became so ubiquitous that cartoon character charlie brown rarely was seen without his T-shirt with distinctive zig-zag stripe around the waist.different types of t-shirts -as the years went on the design of t-shirt became more varied and , very different and some even put across messages

SLIDE 2: YOUR FAVOURITE T-SHIRT

• my t-shirt :D

• this is my favorite t-shirt .this is my favorite t-shirt because i like how the simplicity of the t-shirt makes it so abstract and eye catching .my t-shirt has a picture of mickey mouses body on it but no head .i,e my head. this makes people think ad look and that's what i like about it and the other thing i like about my t-shirt is that it wasn't to expensive because it was only £15 pounds at Topshop . so overall i was happy .

• my t-shirt ,if you designing a t-shit you need to be sure of who you target audience are so that you no what to put on to your t-shirt , because others you might not get any sales .

for my t-shirt i think that it's target audience is the typical teen age girl because of were it was being sold-topshop= teenage girls

SLIDE 3: ONLINE T-SHIRT PRINTING.what is print on demand?

• Print on demand (POD), sometimes called publish on demand, is a printing technology and business process in which new copies of a book (or other document) are not printed until an order has been received. "Print on Demand" developed only after digital printing began, because it was not economical to print single copies using traditional printing technology such as letterpress and offset printing.

Many traditional small presses have replaced their traditional printing equipment with POD equipment or contract their printing out to POD service providers. Many academic publishers, including university presses, use POD services to maintain a large backlist; some even use POD for all of their publications.Larger publishers may use POD in special circumstances, such as reprinting older titles that had been out of print or doing test marketing.

BLOOD SWEAT & T-SHIRTSUnder what conditions are t-shirts on the UK high street produced abroad?

News night special on blood, sweat and t-shirts

Newsnight special with interviews with two of the people that took part in the television series blood, sweat and t-shirts.interviewed two of the girls that took part in the programme and ask them on their views on clothes being sold so cheaply when they have been made in a foreign country .they all so asked the girls weather or not they had learnt any think over the course of the filming proses.

the other videos were called "primark off the racks" one and two and they tended to show how much primark gets the nation into a big frenzy about bargains.-they talk about how cheap Primark is and how the low prices of clothes is a big thing now. The frenzy of all this began in Northern Ireland, When they opened the first ever Primark which is called Pennys in Northern Ireland. The big craze for Primark has rised and is one of the most close behind Marks and Spencers. and because of its low prices it means that people come out with bags full of things .so At the end of the day they draw in enough and them as a company eventually keep on earning enough to open more and more stores around the uk to primark nation wide !

STENCILS + SILKSCREENSHow did these techniques develop? What are their benefits & problems?

we had start to cut out our stencils and were ready to start to screen print but Steve said that because mine was so delicate an had allot of small parts to it i would be better off using card under the T-shirt and sticking it down to the t-shirt with masking tape rather than using the actually screen printing equipment. therefore i did not actual get to use the screen printing materials which we were equipped with.it took me about fifteen minutes to finish painting my t-shirt and so that it would dry faster we had to carefully take the masking tape straight away and then i stuck it on the wall.
