The Different tools used by the company

Page 8: Knowledge management SIMS Pune

JIT (JUST IN TIME) – A methodology aimed primarily at reducing flow times within production as well as response times from suppliers and to customers.

• The company follows this tool so as to save costs as well as energy as they incur on the storage of extra goods (raw material or finished goods) as the goods they manufacture are bulky as well as in huge quantities.

• Using this has helps them to free the working capital and use it effi-ciently in other activities. They have been able to deliver the goods on time which has led them to have a good reputation among the customers.

Outsourcing Decision MatrixThe company has its own factories as well as it is in contract with 12 otherFactories so this Outsourcing Decision Matrix is very important for the company so as to decide if to outsource or make the goods in their own factory.

The general usage of this matrix is for deciding the outsourcing and retaining the activities that are not important and important respectively.

The company has modified this and uses it as the matrix to decide if they should outsource their goods or manufacture themselves or form an alliance with the factory and then go ahead with signing a contract with that factory, or not take the order at all.

Theory of Constraints

The theory states that every system, no matter how well it performs, has at least one constraint and that limits the performance. Using this means finding out that constraint and working on it per se i.e. managing the constraint by working on it and solving it. Once that is done performance should be evaluated and checked if has actually improved or not. Or the constraint should be managed and worked on again. The company frequently uses this theory all the time as there is atleast one con-straint at any given point in time and the other areas of weakness are non con-straints until they become the weakest link.
