Branding

Kanye West

The cover for Kanye West’s graduation album is very animated and cartoon-like and futuristic, which is similar too the video for the song ‘stronger’ off the album. I would say that at this point in his career Kanye’s brand image was futuristic and very ‘bling’. He seems very fashion conscious as even the animated bear on his album cover is wearing fashionable clothes.

Another brand image Kanye had after this album was his signature glasses which then started being sold in high street stores.

The similarities throughout Kanye's career are really at the beginning of his career as he is establishing his brand image, all his first three albums contain his ‘logo’ teddy bear and his name is written in the same font and style – ‘KanYeWest’

Kanye West’s image has changed a lot over the years his album covers have become a lot more artistic and simple until the point where his newest album doesn’t have any writing or title on it, as he has such an established fan base the audience will recognize the album without his brand being printed onto it. His last three albums slowly got more and more simplistic, losing the writing and then imagery. So Kanye’s brand image has become a lot less like the average rapper or R’n’B artist and it has become a lot more stylish and classic.

Why?

Stars need brand images too become recognizable and as soon as they have found a brand image that has a popular audience they can stick too it as they know it is popular and liked by their fans. Kanye west has not stuck too his brand image even though it was popular a his music matured some say this was due too the passing away of his mother which happened before the production of his ‘808’s and heartbreaks’ album which is the point in which his image changed. I think the decision was a good one as he became more of a unique artist and his music style matured but he could get away with it because he had a very loyal fanbase and did still keep elements of his old albums in his new music.
