Kanchipuram sarees

For young girls, every saree seems so elegant and crafty and it has been their dream to wear a

saree like the Kanchipuram sarees. Did I just hear people agreeing with what I just said?

People have often asked shopkeepers “why a kanchipuram saree?” “What’s so special?”

A lot of us women have grown up watching our mothers drape their sarees for various occasions

or work neatly and carefully. We’ve often asked ourselves questions like “how does a short

person wear a 9 yard saree?” “Won’t it be too long?” “Will it fit? Kanchipuram Sarees are

made for women to show off with elegance and style.

We often forget sarees are not like a pair of trousers that don’t come in various sizes. It’s just one

long piece of cloth that is wrapped around a woman’s body. We’ve all at some point it time

worn our 1st kanchipuram saree and have constantly looked in the mirror admiring ourselves

trying to absorb the fact that we’re actually wearing a saree. We’ve had small children come up

to us and tug at our sarees just to say “aunty, you look so pretty, will you teach us how to wear

one?”

Children are the most innocent humans on this planet. They have no idea what to say when and

have often said the cutest things that have brought a smile to our faces. They are often fascinated

to see their mothers wear kanchipuram sarees or at least buy their very 1st saree. “What is the

story behind these kanchipuram sarees?” why are they so symbolic?

The kanchipuram sarees are crafted with gold and silver linings. Women have often been asked

by men as to why they insist on buying such sarees that are filled with gold and silver? Women

turn around and smile and simply say “it’s like when you’ll buy six pairs of pants and a dozen

gold watches”

Dhoti

People often feel insulted when they see farmers or south Indian men wear a dhoti. Women feel

the most insulted and have often said “it is embarrassing to see men walk around in a dhoti

showing their legs off, when we can’t”

It is an elegant piece of clothing that shows the south Indian culture and religion. Dhoti has been

worn by so many men and women that it has became a fashion statement. Actors who have often

worn one for their movie have said “it is so comfortable that we wish we could wear one all day”

Dhoti was a piece cloth that was 1st worn by Mahatma Gandhi and ever since it has made a

significant mark. People have often remarked by saying “Dhoti is a part of the South Indian

culture and it should not influence other religions” Some say different otherwise.

Dhoti is a comfortable piece of clothing that helps keep the muscles relaxed. One’s legs can

move around with ease and style. Politicians across the globes have fought over a simple thing

like “why wear a dhoti?”

People across the world have often said they have better things to do than fight over a simple

piece of clothing like a dhoti. Wearing a dhoti is symbolic as it shows of elegance and style.
