My BackgroundWho am I? Katy Digovich, graduated from Princeton, where I played basketball, majored in molecular biology and minored in theater, in 2008. One month after graduation I founded a non-profit in Sub-Saharan Africa that builds health and education mobile applications and trains local youth to do support and maintenance on our systems What is my background in the industry? The non-profit I founded, Positive Innovation for the Next Generation (PING), has launched 11 mobile apps in 3 African countries and partnered with major African telecoms, Hewlett Packard, Motorola, Nokia and others. Our work has been featured on the BBC, Forbes, Mashable, Yahoo News and more. What am I currently trying to do? I am using our market knowledge to create a start-up affiliated with our non-profit, I want to take our experience and our NGO partners (including major African telecoms and print media companies) and launch a mobile fusion of Craigslist and Yelp for emerging markets that works on low to high end devices. What are my objectives? Raise 100K to build and launch our and find mentorship and advisors

Opportunity:General: In Botswana and many other Sub-Saharan African countries it is inconvenient, time-consuming and expensive for people and merchants to find, buy and sell stuff.

Specific: You want to buy a used bike in Botswana. You will have to do all of the following: 1. look at “Mike’s Bikes Store” in the capital city which is often out of stock of adult bikes2. post a “wanted ad” on a Facebook group and email all your friends 3. search local newspapers print classifieds for “used bikes” 4. Stand in line at the newspaper to post a wanted ad for a “used bike”. One of these options will pan out for you but you will consider yourself lucky if you spend just a few days exploring all of them and if you are posting a “wanted” ad in the classifieds paper it will cost you at minimum of 10USD, not to mention the gas money used viewing bikes.

Solution:General: A mobile fusion of Craigslist and Yelp that even low end phone owners can use to search or post information. Jujuz will match buyers, sellers and merchants with classified ads and deals.

Specific: Assuming you are an average user and own a low end phone, you type *58589# into your phone and browse bikes on Jujuz, you can also request to have all current and future bike postings SMSed to you . You can request MMS’s of the photos of all the bikes you have read about. If you find nothing you can SMS in your own posting “looking for used bike” to the “wanted” section. You can also use Jujuz to check in on the stock at Mike’s Bikes and send a wanted ad directly into the classifieds newspaper without going into their office.

Our Markets6 initial target markets with 300.1 million mobile subscribers.

Botswana is our launch market followed by Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa. These countries have the most phones per people and some of the fastest growing middle classes (defined as 5000-7000USD of disposable income per year) in Africa!

Statistics taken from CIA World Factbook 2013 and Deloitte 2012 Report: Africa’s Rising Middle Class

Currently the middle class in Africa is the same size of the

middle class in China but growing much faster!

Why Do We Care About Botswana?General Landscape: Internet penetration in Sub-Saharan Africa is low but

growing (5-25% of people have access depending on country), mobile penetration is high (60-95%) but still low on smartphones (1-10%) and

feature (internet enabled) phones (20-30%). In all 6 target markets there are over 5 million print classifieds postings per month, in our launch

market these posters pay an average cost of 10USD a post.

Botswana: Great test market. Small stable country with the one of the highest monthly ARPU for telecoms and the highest cell phone density on

the continent. An ideal market to launch, test features, fail fast and do customer development. Averages 40,000 print classifieds postings per

month at 10USD per post.

Statistics taken from CIA World Factbook 2013, the Advertiser and the MTN Website
