Catering

In events management catering liaises strongly with hospitality. This is due to the fact that in events such as weddings or school prom food must be provided as an essential giving both chef’s and waiter/waitresses a job to do. They will be expected to wait hand and foot delivering fine service and quality food to the customers whilst also maintaining a high level of politeness and mannerism to create a good atmosphere. There should also be someone to clean all of the used pots and cutlery to ensure that they are clean. However, if you were catering for a music gig you would not be able to use waiters or chefs as it is not appropriate so by providing bar staff that are over 18 so that they can legally serve alcohol or soft drinks to the public. This would mean that also the catering would need licensing to serve it.

Venue

For venue management they would be in charge of providing venue bookings, licensing, risk management and a setup team. They will be expected to be able to consistently provide an appropriate location of which an event will take place for example, The black keys tour- MCR arena. If a large music gig like this took place in an expensive restaurant then it would not work so providing the adequate space means that they can cater for up to 10,000 people. They will also be expected to provide licensing liaising with catering in order to serve alcohol. If licensing was not provided then this can result in the venue being immediately shut down. This coincides with risk management as health and safety checks must be provided to ensure that the environment is safe for the general public. furthermore, they would need a setup team to be able to rig the appropriate lighting and sound equipment requested for by the lighting and sound design or in the case of theatre possibly even set for a dance performance.
