• In 1947, Defenders of Furbearers, the organization that would later become Defenders of Wildlife, was founded. We are one of the country's leaders in science-based, results-oriented wildlife conservation. We stand out in our commitment to saving imperiled wildlife and championing the Endangered Species Act, the landmark law that protects them.

• We have numerous field offices that deal specifically with the wildlife species that inhabit the states or regions in which our staff is located. We also make a point to work with in-state partners and local conservation organizations around the country and visit important sites to get a first hand look at the wildlife and lands we protect.

• Mission:– Defenders of Wildlife is a national, nonprofit membership

organization dedicated to the protection of all native animals and plants in their natural communities.

• We work to protect and restore America's native wildlife, safeguard habitat, resolve conflicts, work across international borders and educate and mobilize the public.

• Our rapid development and expansion is a testament to Defenders of Wildlife’s commitment to our mission and our efforts to give our members and the wildlife they long to preserve a voice in the field and in the halls of Congress.

• Now, the Senate is our last chance to stop these anti-wildlife attacks hidden in a must-pass bill intended to keep the federal government running.

• It contains a terrible provision that would eliminate Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

• And the bill slashes substantive conservation funding streams like those feeding the Land and Water Conservation Fund and State Wildlife Grant programs, and takes a swipe at the vital Endangered Species Act. Among other things, this recklessness jeopardizes California's Bay Delta water supply.

• Our projects and research are funded by the contributions from our members, anonymous donors, and others. The work is carried out by many staff members and volunteers.

• We all work together to get bills past, and to stop bills from being past. Such as the Environment and Related Agencies appropriations bill, Global Warming Wildlife Survival Act, and Southern Sea Otter Recovery and Research Act.

• We’ve been protecting wildlife for over 60 years, and we've got plenty of success stories to prove it. But here is one of most recent.

• U.S House of Representatives passed the CLEAR Act on July 30, 2010. As part of the BP incident.

• Because of this the Land and Water Conservation Fund is fully funded regardless of who’s to blame for the oil spill.

• Finally, for the first time ever, the CLEAR Act allows America’s national wildlife refuges to collect and retain funds for damages from the spill of any contaminant.

• Why we care: Our wildlife and wild places are disappearing - and we think it’s important to engage in protect them.

• Why we organize: When people who share a common purpose connect, they can make big things happen. That’s a powerful thing.

Community Need

Page 10: Its time to help

• Current Need: To survive, jaguars - which are endangered in the U.S. - require an extensive range and the ability to travel through remote areas between the U.S. and Mexico. It’s a task made nearly impossible by hundreds of miles of new border walls, and these big cats may become extinct in the U.S. as a result.

• Members of the House and Senate Subcommittees on Appropriations for Homeland Security are meeting to determine whether to mandate the construction of hundreds of miles of additional walls along the U.S.-Mexico border.– To help and send a letter to Homeland Security visit the site below.

• “How do we assess the development of Students’ Thinking and/or Content Learning?”

• We aggrandize our research in the bills being passed everyday by Congress. We look to our members/volunteers, our employees, and our in-state partners to better impetus our improvement.

• We work to educate and mobilize the public about imperative information for the protection of wildlife and habitats.

• To work to explain everything that is current in our country and our congress in order to best inform the public.

• Critical Thinking is a part of our organization through our vast research into not just bills past by congress but by our scientist on how we can better improve our environments resources.

• With this information it induces Critical Thinking in the public, and with their help and others we’re able to engage in the Critical Action we work hard to accomplish.
