Is it possible for Revit users to delete the layers of linked CAD files in Revit? Is it possible for Revit users to delete the layers of linked

CAD files in Revit?

When it comes to managing the layers of a linked CAD file in Revit let me tell readers that Revit

provides them with enough powers for controlling the layers of linked files. They can easily

delete the layers of a linked file or else they can also hide the layers from the view if desired.

When Revit modelers go ahead with deleting layers in linked file, the layers which are deleted by

them will be no more available to users in Revit. But deleting the layers in linked files has

nothing to do with the layers in the original CAD files. That means the layers which are deleted

by Revit users remain intact in original CAD files.

If incase Revit users again want to make use of the deleted layers they have to delete the

presently linked CAD file and link the original file again to their Revit project.

Use the following process for deleting the specified layers

The first step that should be taken by Revit users for deleting the layers of a linked CAD

file is that they are required to open a project view in the building design software Revit.

After opening a project view in Revit, 3D modelers are required to effectively highlight

the import symbol for the CAD file.

Once the import symbol is effectively highlighted by them, they are then required to click

it for selecting it.

Once Revit users click the file for its selection the Status bar reflects a variety of

information within it.

The information reflected within the Status bar includes ‘imported file name’ ‘Import

Symbol’ and ‘Location.’

What is required from Revit users is to click the Modify tab for deleting the layers of the

linked CAD file.

After the Modify tab is clicked by Revit users they are required to specify the file name

and then click ‘Import Instance panel.’

Once Import Instance panel is clicked by users they are then required to click Delete

Layers option from there.

After this users are required to choose the layers which they want to delete and these

layers are selected from Select Layers/Levels to Delete dialog box.

Once the layers are properly selected by users they can click OK.

After clicking OK, the layers are effectively deleted and they will not appear in the Revit

project.
