Corporates & entrepreneurs
Apples & oranges, or a fresh approach to innovation?
Food for thought from Jenny Vandyke, author of The Innovation Recipe
Different risk appetite
Different resources
Different strengths
Same innovation mistakes
Same key ingredients
There’s no doubt that corporates and
entrepreneurs have different risk appetites,
and different ways of resourcing innovation.
Corporates and entrepreneurs often speak a
different language, and each brings different
strengths to the table.
I’ve spent more than 10 years working at a
senior level on major innovation projects
with Australia’s largest companies, including
NAB, BHP and KPMG. I also provide
innovation advice to numerous start ups and
SME’s.
The interesting thing is that I see the same
innovation mistakes made in businesses of all
shapes and sizes, and the same key
ingredients for translating ideas into results.
Most CEO’s believe that the next big disruption to hit
their business is likely to come from outside their industry
If you’re only looking for
innovation inside your
organisation, you could
end up with egg on your face
Amazon Disrupted the publishing industry and the retail industry
Apple Disrupted sectors including music, mobile phones and photography
Twitter Disrupted media companies, and unpopular governments
Uber Disrupting the taxi industry
DISRUPTING OUTSIDE THEIR INDUSTRY
