IATA• IATA was founded in 1946 by airlines of many

countries to meet the problems created by rapid expansion of civil air services at the close of the second world war.

• IATA is a trade association of 250 world airlines.• It is the successor of International Air Traffic

Organisation formed in 1919.• Initially it had 57 airlines of 31 countries

Membership to IATA is open to all licensed airlines companies providing scheduled air service.

3 Goals:1. Improvement in fuel efficiency of 1.5% per annum

2. A cap on net carbon emissions 3. A 50% reduction in net carbon emissions

IATA member airlines adopted the first standard procedures for handling interline traffic at an IATA Traffic Conference in 1947,

and these have developed further over the years through extensive IATA Traffic Services machinery.

Traffic Services is grouped under 3 main functions as:1. Passenger Service Conference

2. Cargo Services Conference3. Airport Handling Communities
