Internaltubulars can be stainlesssteel or galvanised mildsteel and the outer casingis made from unbreakablemedium densitypolyethylene. Standardcolour is white with greenand white stripes butgreen is also availablewith other colours onrequest.

Immersion or traceheating is available. Whenan immersion heater isfitted, the 100 Wattelement is easily removedfor servicing orreplacement. All heatedmodels are fitted with fail-safe dual thermostats.

Note: Units are notdesigned to deliver warmwater at a constanttemperature; cool water ispreferable as it soothesthe affected area andreduces percutaneousabsorption of chemicalsthrough the skin. Water inthe standpipe is heated to20oC to prevent freezingand avoid shocking thevictim with the initialdeluge.

Spray nozzles are selfdraining to eliminate thebuild-up of bacteria andare easily removed forcleaning.

UNIQUE DESIGNFEATURES

Good designs can beimproved and updated,and that includesEmergency SafetyShowers. The main designchanges with the modelsin this range concern theouter casing which is nowrotationally moulded fromunbreakable whitepolyethylene rather thanfabricated from grey uPVCor polypropylene tube. Inaddition to improvedimpact resistance, thisimproves visibility, so thatthe shower stands out ina pipework environment.

The Shower and BodySpray operatingmechanism has also beenre-designed. Previoustriangular or circular pullhandles have beenreplaced with a moreeasily operated panic bar,which incorporates a testhandle. The test handle isparticularly useful whenthe unit has to be testedweekly - as stipulated inthe American NationalStandard (ANSI Z358.11998). In addition to anew style stainless steelfoot treadle, the unit hasa Light Box fitted to thetop as standard. Whenthe optional light is fittedthis illuminates the signsfor greater visibility ondull days and at night. Diffusers also shine lightdownwards to ensure theoperating mechanism andshower area are well lit atall times.

A further developmentwithin the range is thenew styleEyebath/FacewashFountain. This moderniseddesign includes innovativefeatures such as enhancedgraphics, integralshatterproof mirror andraised splashguard.

The modular design thatmade our previous rangeof Heated Outdoor Unitsso successful has beenretained to ensure easyaccess to the valves. Thispermits easy removal andreplacement of anymodule if it becomesdamaged.

The Temperature Controlled(TC) Emergency Safety Showeris intended for outdoor usewhere the water requiresheating. It has a 300 litre tankand 3kW heater and regardlessof the ambient temperaturewill deliver tepid water for theANSI recommended minimumperiod of 15 minutes. Waterfrom the heated tank is mixedwith the mains fed cold supplythrough a high flow ratethermostatically controlledvalve to maintain atemperature of between 25 -35°C.

In addition to delivering waterat the required temperaturethrough its own shower head,the TC unit can also supplyheated water to otherEmergency Showers via asecond outlet from the tank.This means that severalshowers within an area canmeet the temperature andduration criteria stipulated inthe ANSI standard.

The standard unitconsists of aheated tank,overhead showerand side mountedeyebath with protectivelid. If preferred, it can besupplied without theeyebath.

Alternatively, the unit can besupplied without the showeror eyebath and simply used tosupply heated water to othershower and eyebath units.

Using Emergency SafetyShowers in cold climatesposes particular problemsfor casualties.Temperature ControlledShowers are intended foroutdoor use in lowambient conditions andare designed to remain onstandby to deliver warmwater for up to 15minutes to avoid thecasualty going into shock.

Showers in theTemperature Controlledrange have an integralheated tank to deliverwarm water by mixing itwith the mains fed coldsupply. They can also beused as a warm watersource to feed otherEmergency Shower unitsin the local vicinity.

The TemperatureControlled ShowerCubicle uses a standardimmersion or trace heatedshower unit within atemperature controlledcabin. The casualty isafforded protection fromthe elements whileshowering and, ifnecessary, can remain inthe protectedenvironment until helparrives.

Temperature ControlledShower Cubicle

The Temperature ControlledShower Cubicle is designed foroutdoor use in exposedfreezing conditions. It is fittedwith a thermostaticallycontrolled air heater and ispre-insulated to help maintaina warm internal airtemperature.

Push open doors giveunimpeded access andautomatically close behind thecasualty on entry. Windows inthe doors enable the casualtyto be monitored whilst usingthe shower which is imperativein case assistance is required.

As standard the cubicle issupplied with an ImmersionHeated Shower from ourpremium range which includesan Eyebath/Facewash as wellas an additional Body Spray.Should either theEyebath/Facewash or BodySpray not be required (asillustrated) this is available at areduced price.

The cubicle frame is normallymanufactured from GalvanisedMild Steel but can be madefrom Stainless Steel if required.(Shown with optional drainsump and alarm system).

A general purpose rangeof economically pricedEmergency Safety Showersand Eyebath/FacewashFountains. Ideal for Exportand intended for usethroughout industry wherethere is a possibility ofwater inside the showerfreezing or overheatingdue to the ambienttemperatures. They aretrace tape heated and pre-insulated and all modelsare suitable for Zone 1and Zone 2 as well asNon-Flameproof areas.

A comprehensive range ofEmergency SafetyShowers andEyebath/Facewash modelssuitable for use outdoorsin tropical climates. Allmodels in this rangeincorporate self-drainingshower valves to ensurethat no water is left in thestandpipe, thuseliminating the possibilityof the water in thestandpipe overheatingfrom the effects of solarradiation. When thesemodels are combinedwith underground watersupplies, any possibilityof the user becomingscalded by overheated

water is eliminated. All units are made upof separate modulesto facilitate economicpacking in relativelysmall boxes, thus

greatly reducing packingand shipping costs. Themodules are easilyassembled on site with aminimum of productknowledge.

Cubicles and ProtectiveFrames have beendesigned for situationswhere an EmergencyShower needs its ownfloor space, particularly ifspace is at a premium.They protect againstdamage and preventclutter around the showerand eyebath and ensureaccessibility in anemergency. The panellingand self-adhesive signscreate a high visibility,especially when associatedwith the optional lightbox.

A choice of materials andcolours is available for thepanelling, and the framescan be manufactured ineither stainless steel orgalvanised mild steelwhich is over-painted withsilver Hammerite paint.

• Light Boxes Light Boxes enable the safety signs tobe back-lit for greater visibility on dulldays or at night. They also providelocal illumination to ensure that theshower and/or eyebath operatingmechanisms are easy to see at all timesas recommended in the ANSI StandardZ358.1-1998.

Optional fittings, for usewith the outdoor range ofEmergency Showers, aredesigned to improve theefficiency of theequipment and tocontribute towards itseffectiveness. All optionalfittings are manufacturedto the same high qualityas all Hughes products toensure a long and trouble-free life.

Emergency Safety Showersmust be easy to locate incase of an emergency,which means that theyneed to be highly visible.Lights and back-litpictogram signs help tolocate the nearest showerin an emergency and areparticularly useful in areasof low illumination or atnight.
