Hotel hygiene - Importance

• Take up vigilant and appropriate precautionary measures to safeguard health of employees as that of visitors. 

• Follow strict health guidelines

Environmental hygiene

• Rooms -maintained at a reasonable standard of cleanliness

• All surfaces -cleaned daily

• Public washrooms and food consumption/ service areas -cleaned/maintained regularly

• Supervisors -regular monitoring to ensure that existing hygiene standards are strictly enforced

Floors and floor coverings

• Carpets or rugs/mats -vacuumed using a cleaner or steam cleaned 

• Hard floor surfaces -cleaned with wet vacuum systems

• Drying floors necessary-reduces safety hazard from wet floors

• Hard floor surfaces –can be damp mopped using sanitizing solution , rinsed and dried

Furnishing• Includes items such as curtains, drapes, screens,

lampshades and furniture items

• washed/wiped with a diluted household bleach solution or steam cleaned regularly

Laundry / launderette

• Laundries should be washed at least daily.

• Linen (sheets, pillowcases, cotton blankets) should be washed in hot water and detergent, rinsed and dried

• Linen should be changed at

least twice a week and whenever a guest has checked out.

• Mattresses and pillows with plastic covers can be wiped diluted household bleach solution

• Mattresses without plastic covers -steam cleaned

• Regular cleaning and maintaining of public toilets and washrooms.

• Air-conditioning systems should be cleaned and maintained

• Filters -changed or cleaned regularly

• Wash hands frequently

• Cover nose and mouth with tissue paper when sneezing or coughing

• Change and wash uniform at least daily
