Architecture is not just drawing up plans and specifications for a building, it is a total attitude to the physical environment around
you.

there is an intrinsic interconnectedness between the internal and external through visual access and light penetration both natural and artificial, highlighting the public and private zones and their relationship with activities of day and night.

Glass was revolutionary in the design of Rose Seidler house, large panes used to create a maximum light penetrations through fenestrations. Windows act to open up the space to maximum light whilst gaining visual access to the exterior in both the kitchen and dinning, this creates a constant interaction between the interior and the landscape surrounding it, there is an intrinsic interconnectedness between the internal and external through visual access and light penetration both natural and artificial, this is reiterated by the open plan living.
Within the kitchen and dining we see this highlighted by the interconnection of spaces through double sided joinery with the application of opaque door panels.

Artificial lighting took a very simplistic, functional approach, with focused spot lighting, strip fluorescent task lighting and a focused task lamp

Materiality within the space also acts to enhance the maximum light by reflecting both natural and artificial light penetration within the kitchen and dining room,- high gloss surfaces such as the overhead cupboards and the custom made dining table.- opaque sliding glass panels connect the kitchen and dining space together whilst enhancing the sense of lightness within the space by diffusing sunlight.- the use of light neutral tones applied to walls, ceiling and carpets acts to enhance a sense of lightness and accentuate a simple lighting design, - low sheen materials such as the black vinyl kitchen countertop also act to diffuse light whilst still retaining some reflectivity.

natural light allowed through full length window paneling in the dining space and above counter window panels is mediated in a variety of ways, to both diffuse and enhance. - frosted or opaque panes in the upmost windows of the kitchen diffuse the harshest of sunlight.- a heat coating is applied to all window panes reacts to varying conditions, turning reflective after dark to intensify artificial lighting at night whilst giving maximum penetration of available sunlight.- Crepe Rayon Curtains in bold orange, blue and a subdued brown create a dappled vibrance within the space when backlit by sunlight but in the evening serve to enhance the jewel box effect created by the heat treatment applied to glass facades.
