High Value Opportunities: Australian roads and Christchurch rebuild

Embed Size (px)

DESCRIPTION

The Australian Government has announced its 2014 investment programme for Australia's roads and intermodal network. The road construction market will strengthen from 2015-16 onwards until 2023, stemming from existing federal funding commitments, ongoing maintenance, asset sale and new private toll road start ups. This High Value Opportunity (HVO) focuses on the three large scale road projects to the total of over A$26 billion (£14 billion): West Connex, Sydney, East West Link, Melbourne and the Bruce Highway Upgrade, Brisbane - incorporating the Great Northern Highway. Webinar overview: Scott Strain, Director for Trade Australia and New Zealand will provide a brief update on the Christchurch Rebuild Project, before handing over to Senior Trade Development Manager Antonia Yendell to introduce the Australian Roads High Value Opportunity (HVO). They will be joined by Dr Simon Wilkinson, a UKTI Specialist from the HVO Programme in London. Dr Wilkinson specialises in the transportation, water, energy and city development sectors. His presentation will: • Share key findings from a recent scoping visit to Australia and New Zealand • Highlight the opportunities for UK businesses • Provide an interpretation of the procurement pipelines • Comment on best practice.

What is an High Value Opportunity?A HVO is a major overseas project with a UK accessible contract value in excess of £250 million;

The High Value Opportunity Programme is a core UKTI strategy to identify, analyse and inform UK business about Global High Value Opportunities (HVO's*), specifically:

- Identifying, qualifying and structuring specific HVO's aligned with UK capability;- Raising awareness of the HVO portfolio, connecting UK based companies and support bidding;- Delivering value by helping companies, large and small, access the supply chain and win business.

As at January 2014 UK companies verified that UKTI has helped them win GBP 6.2bn of HVO contracts during FY2013/14 .

AUS5 – NATIONAL ROAD NETWORK• Roads is now the second largest sector of engineering construction (behindmining), but was the largest sector for almost all of the last 35 years.

• The Australian road network covers more than 817,000 kilometres.

• Approximate 657,000 kilometres are controlled by local government

• State-controlled roads account for about three quarters of all vehicle kilometres travelled.

• There are more than 37,000 road bridges across Australia.

• 75% of all passenger kilometres travelled in Australia occur on roads.

• Public transport is a major user of our road network. In Melbourne, for example, more than 80 per cent of all public transport kilometres are travelled on roads.
